Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls Maintenance Technician to perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on a wide array of instrumentation and control systems in live, continuously operating industrial environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive troubleshooting abilities, in-depth technical knowledge of various instrument technologies and communication protocols, and a safety-driven mindset to minimize downtime while upholding operational integrity. Key Responsibilities: Instrumentation Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine inspections, calibrations, and functional checks on a comprehensive range of instrumentation: Flow Instruments: Ultrasonic (transit-time, doppler), magnetic, Coriolis, vortex, variable area, thermal mass, turbine, and DP-based flowmeters with primary flow elements (orifice plates, venturis, pitot tubes). Level Instruments: Radar (free-space, guided wave), magnetostrictive, displacer level transmitters, capacitance, ultrasonic, DP level, and float-based systems. Pressure Instruments: Pressure transmitters, pneumatic and electronic pressure switches, differential pressure transmitters, and pressure gauges. Temperature Instruments: RTDs, thermocouples, thermowells, infrared sensors, bimetallic thermometers, and fiber-optic temperature measurement devices. Analytical Instruments: pH, conductivity, oxygen analyzers, moisture analyzers, dew point analyzers, gas analyzers, continuous emission monitors, and process gas chromatographs. Vibration Instruments: Accelerometers, velocity probes, eddy-current displacement sensors, and portable vibration analyzers for rotating machinery health monitoring. Control Valves & Final Control Elements: Maintain and troubleshoot a variety of control valves (rotary, butterfly, globe, gate, ball) and associated components, including solenoids, limit switches, position transmitters, I/P converters, positioners, volume tanks, and valve actuators (pneumatic, hydraulic, electric). Ensure reliable operation, accurate positioning, proper fail-safe modes, and tight control to support stable process conditions. Signal Types & Communication Protocols: Work with both analog (4-20 mA, 1-5 VDC) and digital communication protocols (HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Modbus, DeviceNet, Profibus). Troubleshoot and maintain wireless instrumentation solutions (e.g., WirelessHART, ISA100) to ensure secure, reliable data transmission in real-time operating units. Live Unit Operations & Safety: Safely conduct maintenance tasks on live, operating process units, strictly following site safety procedures, lockout/tagout protocols, and adhering to hazardous area classifications. Identify potential issues before they become critical, mitigating downtime and upholding a safe work environment for personnel and equipment. Predictive & Preventive Maintenance Programs: Execute scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance tasks, utilizing condition monitoring tools, vibration analysis equipment, and advanced diagnostics to anticipate failures and prolong equipment life. Continuously refine and update maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability and plant performance. Documentation & Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate calibration records, maintenance logs, loop sheets, wiring diagrams, and as-built documentation. Update technical drawings and P&IDs to reflect modifications, ensuring that documentation remains current and accurate. Continuous Improvement & Team Collaboration: Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance personnel to identify opportunities for reliability enhancements, instrumentation upgrades, and overall process optimization. Participate in root cause failure analyses and recommend/implement corrective actions that enhance long-term equipment availability and performance. Qualifications & Skills: Education & Experience: Technical certification, journeyman-level instrumentation training, or equivalent experience required. Minimum of 2 years of proven experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing instrumentation in live industrial process environments. Technical Proficiency: Comprehensive understanding of instrumentation principles, electronics, electrical circuits, and their application in continuous process control. Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring schematics, and vendor documentation with ease. Communication & Teamwork: Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams. Detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to manage priorities in a dynamic production setting. Additional Requirements: Valid driver’s license and ability to work onsite under rotating shifts or extended hours as plant operations demand.
