Overview:

The Chief of Staff for NYS Senator Monica R. Martinez is a senior leadership role responsible for managing both the Albany and Long Island district offices. This position oversees legislative strategy, office operations, team management, and constituent services to ensure the Senator’s priorities are effectively executed. As the principal advisor to the Senator, the Chief of Staff provides strategic guidance, manages key relationships, and ensures the efficient functioning of the offices in alignment with the Senator’s goals. Key Responsibilities Leadership and Office Management Oversee teams in both the Albany and Long Island offices, fostering collaboration and ensuring alignment with the Senator’s goals and priorities. Manage day-to-day office operations while ensuring office systems and protocols are consistently followed to enhance efficiency and collaboration. Recruit, train, and mentor new employees and interns to build a strong, effective team capable of meeting the demands of a fast-paced legislative environment. Legislative Oversight and Policy Support Collaborate with the Legislative Director to develop and execute strategies which advance the Senator’s policy goals. Provide oversight on legislative initiatives, ensuring thorough research, alignment with district priorities, and effective stakeholder engagement. Support budget negotiations by identifying key district priorities, preparing data-driven advocacy materials, and securing critical funding. Constituent and Stakeholder Engagement Oversee constituent services to ensure timely and effective responses to inquiries and cases. Manage external communications, including media relations, press releases, and public statements, while maintaining the Senator’s public image and messaging. Foster relationships with local governments, advocacy groups, and stakeholders, and coordinate outreach events to strengthen community ties. Strategic Advising and Relationship Management Act as the Senator’s primary liaison with Senate leadership, Assembly offices, the Executive Chamber, state agencies, and other key entities. Provide strategic advice on voting decisions and legislative priorities, focusing on district relevance and political implications during election years. Represent the Senator in high-level meetings and negotiations, ensuring her positions and district needs are effectively communicated. Qualifications Strong knowledge of state and local politics, legislative processes, and Senate operations. Proven experience in office management, staff leadership, and maintaining operational excellence. Exceptional research, analysis, and written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated success in legislative advocacy, including passing critical legislation and navigating complex budget processes. Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines with a focus on strategic outcomes. Experience building and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, advocacy groups, and constituents. Preferred Experience Prior experience as a Chief of Staff or in a senior legislative or public policy role. Background in constituent relations, community outreach, or event planning. Expertise in managing high-pressure situations, including election-year strategies and budget negotiations.
