The Department of Health Services (DHS), Disability Determination Bureau (DDB) is recruiting to fill a Disability Program Associate (DPA) position. DDB is located at 1400 E. Washington Avenue in Madison, WI with Free on-site parking.

Position Summary
This position independently perform tasks related to quality review of the technical aspects of disability decisions under Title Il, Title XVI, and Title XIX of the Social Security Act. Additionally, t his position provides a variety of case support activities for adjudicators. Case review, independent judgment and analysis of program impact are the central features of this position.
This position performs support tasks related to the adjudication of disability applications at the Disability Determination Bureau. Extensive telephone work with claimants, professionals, and other contacts to resolve discrepancies and obtain needed information regarding work history, job descriptions, daily activities and medical treatment, along with accurate electronic case documentation, case development and caseload management, are key features of this position. This position works closely with disability professionals to ensure clarity and policy compliance of case documentation and may assist the Supervisor and/or Manager with a variety of administrative tasks as needed.
Salary Information
The starting salary is $21.66 per hour, plus excellent benefits. The pay schedule and range is 02/11. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set based on the State of WI Compensation Plan in effect at the time of appointment.
Job Details
All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to go through a complete federal background investigation. A suitability determination by the Social Security Administration is necessary prior to hire to determine whether an employee can be issued credentials in order to have access to Social Security disability data, records, and systems.
After the initial training period these positions offer the option to work remotely up to 4 days per week with the other 1 day in the office. This schedule may vary based on training or operational needs.
For positions that do allow remote working flexibility, although residency in the State of WI is not required for permanent positions, it is not anticipated that working outside of WI or bordering cities will be allowed as positions may at times need to report to office locations in WI on short notice.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.
Employees must have access to secure high-speed internet for remote work option. Mileage reimbursement to the employee's headquarter location is not provided. Remote work flexibility will be discussed in more detail during the interview process.

- Experience using Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Word, Excel) or similar programs to perform duties such as create/manage documents or spreadsheets.
- Experience verbally communicating with internal and external customers including answering questions and collecting information.
- Experience providing documentation through written communication such as email, case file notes, interoffice communications, etc.
- Experience providing customer service over the phone.
- Experience performing quality reviews of others work and providing feedback.
- Experience working in an environment that handles confidential and sensitive information (e.g., healthcare, human resources, government, etc.)
- Experience working with Social Security Disability claims.
- Experience reviewing and applying state or federal policies and/or procedures.
- Experience documenting procedural changes or writing instructions to follow new or updated procedures.
