Position Overview: The Senior Quality Control Manager is responsible for developing, maintaining, and enforcing quality control standards and measures for fabrication within the organization. This role involves applying analytical and problem-solving skills to support and enhance fabrication and welding practices. The Senior QC Manager ensures that quality standards comply with industry regulations, client specifications, and accepted best practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Quality Assurance Leadership: Lead the enforcement of quality assurance measures and testing standards for new applications, ongoing processes, and improvements to existing applications across bidding, detailing, fabrication, and coating stages. Ensure that quality measures comply with regulatory standards, industry standards, project specifications, and best practices. Project Review & Planning: Review new projects prior to implementation to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of fabrication and welding processes, ensuring all quality control (QC) requirements are identified and processes are aligned. Participate in Project and QC meetings to ensure communication and quality alignment across departments. Inspection & Compliance: Assist with client inspections and coordinate with third-party inspectors to ensure compliance with project quality requirements and timelines. Actively explore and develop new welding/fabrication processes and guidelines for emerging technologies. Leadership & Team Management: Manage and direct QC Managers across facilities to meet quality goals, production requirements, and foster individual professional growth. Mentor and develop QC inspectors, including conducting performance appraisals, overseeing training programs, promotions, and disciplinary actions when necessary. Operational Management & Reporting: Monitor Non-Conforming Report (NCR) issues related to product fabrication and welding processes to ensure compliance with internal QA manuals and client requirements. Apply established metrics to evaluate the readiness, quality, and operability of processes, equipment, and personnel. Create, communicate, and maintain test plans, audit schedules, manuals, and quality guidelines to ensure optimal QA performance. Ensure safety standards are upheld by actively participating in required Safety meetings. Inspection Coordination: Ensure inspections are performed in a timely manner according to customer contract specifications, applicable codes, and regulatory standards. Ensure tools, equipment, and inspection materials are calibrated, documented, and maintained. Coordinate and manage the inspection activities of in-house inspectors and third-party testing services. Serve as the primary point of contact for outside quality auditors and inspectors at the plant level. Training & Development: Train QC and production personnel on quality-related topics, ensuring adherence to industry and project standards. Critical Work Oversight: Assign and audit the Lead QC Inspector for fracture-critical and other high-priority projects to ensure adherence to the highest standards of quality. Desired Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a major fabrication industry. At least 2 years of inspection experience in a steel fabrication or erection company. AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification is preferred. Reporting Structure: Reports to: Corporate QA Manager. Coordinates daily with: Shop Superintendents, Operations Managers, QC Managers, and Project Managers. Key Competencies: Strong leadership and people management skills. Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities. Deep understanding of welding/fabrication processes and quality control standards. Proficient in quality assurance testing, auditing, and documentation practices. Strong communication skills for cross-departmental and client interaction.
