Growing Food Manufacturer located in the southwest suburbs of Chicago is seeking a Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager. This company offers competitive compensation, bonus potential, great benefits and a real opportunity to make a difference POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for day-to-day food safety, quality assurance, and sanitation operations and implementation and adherence to our SQF (Safe Quality Food) program. POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Scheduling the FSQA/Sanitation team weekly Hiring, training, coaching, and terminating FSQA/Sanitation employees Records review, pre-shipment review, and verification of all daily FSQA documentation Tracking and trending FSQA/Sanitation labor hours daily/weekly Oversee weekly WIP waste and assist with carryover in the RTE department Oversee weekly environmental testing and daily ATP testing Provide monthly plant training on Food Safety topics and SQF required content Work with overnight sanitation to ensure plant cleanliness and pre-operational effectiveness Weekly meetings required with overnight sanitation Weekly organoleptic evaluation of KIDS and Finger Food meals, along with smoothies Ensure a high level of internal and external customer service. Investigate (and correct) customer issues and complaints relating to quality Supervise workers engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure high productivity and high technical integrity Ensure FSMA, HACCP, GMP, and SQF requirements (including the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the SQF system) are met as needed Responsible for all plant product quality by ensuring various product tests and tests related to ingredients and packaging are being accomplished to specification Resolve major quality problems at production facilities, warehouses, and other areas as required Evaluate and take corrective action when necessary with regard to product date coding and trade age management at all levels of product movement Educate and instruct plant personnel in recommended quality assurance testing, equipment sanitation, and general sanitation and housekeeping practices. Confirm these procedures are being maintained Consult with plant management and personnel on better operational procedures to improve overall efficiency and product yields Discuss plant evaluation with plant management, make appropriate recommendations, and set a timetable for improvement and corrections Provide technical and statistical expertise to teams Provide, and oversee, inspection activity for product throughout the production cycle Supervise workers engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure high productivity and high technical integrity Formulate, document, and maintain quality assurance standards and ongoing quality assurance objectives Interpret quality assurance philosophy to key personnel within the company Oversee inspection activity for product throughout the production cycle Strive to accomplish goals of the manufacturing plan, consistent with established manufacturing, quality, and safety procedures Follow company safety and quality policies and requirements Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or Food Science preferred Five years of experience in food safety and quality assurance in food manufacturing SQF practitioner, HACCP, and PCQI certified Experience in USDA inspected facility Supervisory/management experience Quality orientation and high attention to detail Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Problem analysis and problem resolution skills
