Summary:
The Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory handles approximately 8,000 specimens per year, performing the following testing: chromosome analysis, fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH), and microarray analysis. High complexity testing includes a diverse set of requirements for reporting and specimen handling and follows National Patient Safety Goals, OSHA, CLIA, and Joint Commission Regulations.

Essential Functions:

  1. Serve as a lead technologist of Cytogenetics.
  2. Participate in scheduled technical meetings and assigned CAP proficiency testing.
  3. Provide oversight of technical staff and laboratory workflows in the absence of Supervisor or the Technical Director.
  4. Teach rotating residents and fellows and train new employees when assigned.
  5. Work with Supervisor or Technical Director to perform laboratory audits once every other year.
  6. Provide back-up weekend coverage and holiday coverage.

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences or Clinical Laboratory Sciences required.

Experience:
Experience working in a clinical Cytogenetics laboratory 8-10+ years required.

  • Proficient with computers (including use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, etc.).
