Sanitation Manager- Graveyard Shift

In this role you will provide leadership to the sanitation team and be responsible for the overall cleanliness of the plant

processes while ensuring a safe and sanitary food manufacturing facility. Ensure compliance with all food safety

policies, procedures, and regulatory criteria, including the current SQF code, Good Manufacturing Practices,

Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), USDA regulations, and/or HACCP. You will guide the team and Line Leads as well as

assure compliance with all company, state, federal, and local laws, regulations,

guidelines, standards, etc. relating to sanitation, safety, and food safety.

Supervises the assigned shift on production to ensure shift production goals are achieved

  • Manage and provide guidance to the sanitation team by providing a daily schedule for the Sanitation
  • Department and any other duties assigned by management. This includes enforcing employee attendance, company rules, safety rules, and sanitation department requirements.
  • Executes assigned quarterly and annual goals
  • Spends most of the time on the production floor, partnering with Team and Line Leads to ensure sanitation goals are achieved and may try to make up shortfalls from previous shifts
  • Supervises the intra-shift position rotation to align with ergonomic policies
  • Uses critical thinking skills to interpret sanitation problems and to provide solutions; escalates situations to the manager as required
  • Review the daily production schedules to ensure the sanitation department meets customer order demand
  • Manage both the Sanitation Department labor & supply budgets. Establish a routine cadence to report
  • the status of the overall department budget to the Department Manager.
Responsible for maintaining inventory and ordering cleaning chemicals
  • Cleaning equipment, and replacement parts for the Sanitation Department. Work directly with the pestcontrol representative to provide the necessary support for the site
  • Responsible for all sanitation equipment being in good working condition. This includes routine inspections, escalating issues, and working with maintenance or other third-party resources to complete preventative maintenance.
  • Ensure aging or non-operative equipment is replaced
Develop and implement ongoing training programs
  • Work with the FSQ, Safety, and Trainer Managers to ensure compliance with the required training
  • Assist in training employees in sanitation and operations on equipment cleaning as needed.
Partners with Production, Food Safety & Quality, Maintenance, Warehouse, and Planning to

resolve operation issues
  • Develop familiarity with policies and procedures across all operational functions to ensure alignment
  • Determines root cause for repeat issues and works with appropriate resources to resolve challenges
  • Ensures thorough documentation and communication of procedural changes across the operational team •Assures the company that the process is within USDA/FDA/State requirements and compliance.
Oversees hourly workforce through team leads to ensure adequate training, daily communications, conflict resolution, personal safety, and individual/team performance
  • Supervises team and line leads to ensure daily operational goals are met and that work procedures are followed
  • Shares a trusting and productive relationship with HR to recruit, manage, and develop plant staff
  • Keeps employees informed on their work assignments, work progress, and opportunities for advancement.
  • Partners with HR and external temporary agency/vendors to manage and right-size temporary employee numbers to achieve targeted forecast
  • Addresses employee relations issues as needed, maintaining a contemporary journal of instances that occur to ensure proper documentation; escalate concerns to managers and the HR team
  • Tracks time in Paylocity, approving schedules, making schedule changes, and managing time off; partners with HR to resolve discrepancies
  • Supervises the sanitation team, training, informing, directing, and cataloging activities, exceptions, and performance of the team
  • Ensures compliance with all safety policies, practices, and procedures, training team as required
  • Ensures adherence to all company-established chemical, safety, and cleaning training requirements.
Commits to and executes Sanitation, plant, and food safety procedures and processes
  • Monitors product standards and executes quality control program and operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality to partner with FSQ team
  • Implements GMPs and food Quality Standards and ensures training and other activities to meet standards and drive quality of production
  • Reviews microbiological data and provides solutions to deviations from standards
  • Recommends and implements corrective and preventive measures to improve plant sanitation, employee hygienic practices, and product safety.
  • Participates actively in the safety, quality, and food safety committees. •Performs accident reviews and investigations and any other specific safety assignments.
  • Enforces all company policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Reinforces safety protocol and procedures during daily shift huddles •Addresses safety issues immediately, ensuring those involved understand and embrace the appropriate behaviors
  • Follows incident protocol for addressing injuries and reporting needs
  • Proactively provides ideas for safety program enhancement and communication
  • Collaborate and support plant microbiology in executing the PEM (environmental monitoring program). •
  • Evaluate, update, and execute the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) to reflect changes in equipment design, new equipment, and the cleaning process.
  • Act as subject matter expert representing Sanitation in scheduled audits.
Conduct required pre-operational inspections

•Performs pre-operational, including equipment, facility, and grounds for cleanliness, housekeeping, and proper sanitation. ATP visually inspects required areas and specific equipment based on the pre-op program requirements.

•Observe plant and equipment conditions.

•Assures production facility is in a proper sanitary condition during production days and evaluates sanitation process for regulatory compliance

•Identifies and reports possible environmental program opportunities

•Assures facility staff are complying with personal hygiene procedures

•Gather all available information, including any relevant records generated by the plant.

•Documents and reports any pre-op non-conformance to the FSQ Manager and sanitation supervisor

•Conduct routine daily post-cleaning inspections, including the ATP program.

•Review sanitation records, CIP charts, CIP flow rates, and chemical concentrations for accuracy, utilizing any software programs at the plant level, such as Redzone and plant-specific software, recording charts from portable skids, etc. 8- Seeks ways to improve sanitation outcomes by applying CI approaches

•Listens to all employee suggestions and provides feedback to ensure the team understands critical aspects of the manufacturing process

•Participates in project teams that improve sanitation productivity, control costs, reduce waste, and maintain quality and food safety standards

•Works to develop fluency in standard CI improvement methodologies and terms and may initiative 5S, Wishbone, root cause investigation, etc., or other projects to drive efficiency

•Enforce the current 5S program 9- Performs other job-related duties as required

Background Requirements

High school degree or GED is required. A minimum of 5 years of experience working in food sanitation

operations or production is required. Should have demonstrated supervisory skill sets, including the ability to

provide clear direction, resolve conflict, and teach/coach people to improve. Must have good communication

skills. Must be familiar with GMPs and Food Safety concepts. Must be willing to learn and make a personal

investment in knowledge acquisition, learning, and growth. Must have good process management skills.

Familiarity with OSHA food safety / GMP standards, including FDA, HACCP & 3rd party SQF audits, is required.

Ability to work effectively under pressure with high energy and a bold style. Must be thoroughly familiar with

FDA and USDA standard requirements.

Bilingual in English/Spanish is required. Ability to work flexible hours, including holidays and weekends.

$90,000.00 to $130,000.00
