Stepping Stones Museum for Children opened to the public March 11, 2000. Located within Mathews Park in Norwalk, Connecticut, Stepping Stones has served the region for over 24 years as an award-winning nonprofit 501(c)(3) children's museum. The museum consistently attracts nearly 300,000 visitors each year and our Early Language and Literacy Initiative ("ELLI") reaches 122 students across private and public educational settings. The 44,000 square foot museum offers a multitude of distinctive learning galleries, exhibits and activities, indoor and outdoor spaces, special programming and events, and educational resources.

The next CEO of Stepping Stones Museum for Children will have the opportunity to build upon the solid programmatic foundation of this dynamic and well-loved museum. The opportunity to be transformative and take the organization to the next level is fully supported by the Board.

The CEO will work with and further develop a strong community Board and committed donors to outline a vision for the museum that is respectful of its past while also recognizing the trends and needs of children and students in the future. This will include seeking out new resources in the community, creating new partnerships, and developing the core staff leadership within the Museum to achieve ambitious goals.

The CEO will develop a new strategic plan to guide the Museum into its next 25 years. The CEO, Board of Directors, staff, and community stakeholders will engage in a comprehensive planning process at this exciting time in the organization's history.

Reporting to the Board of Directors and working with a passionate and committed staff of approximately 120 individuals, the CEO of Stepping Stones Museum for Children is responsible for the overall leadership and management of an annual operating budget totaling approximately $10M, including strategic direction, finances, fundraising, programs, staff, and external relations with funders, community partners, visitors, government officials, and others.

The compensation range for this position annually is between $250,000- $300,000.
