Position Summary
This is an executive position as the Senior Vice President of Land Development & Construction at Habitat for Humanity of Collier County (HFHOCC). The Sr Vice President leads the affiliate’s construction division by managing operational and financial requirements for short & long-term Construction goals.
Executive Leadership:
As part of the Executive and Lead Team, manage the affiliate’s construction, operational and financial requirements for Short & Long-Term Construction operations to proceed at planned levels.
Support all efforts to provide affordable home ownership opportunities to all members of HFHCC target demographic population.
Support affiliate efforts to attract, retain, and develop HFHCC team members that achieve continual improvements in all aspects of affiliate operations.
Lead the development of affiliate Annual Operating Plan “AOP” construction assumptions and targets that align with the strategic plan.
Construction:
Define and update the Long-Term Construction schedule showing neighborhood start up dates, construction rates and neighborhood completion dates.
Lead the affiliate construction organization to ensure home completion according to the AOP closing schedule that complies with all external grant requirements while meeting affiliate safety and quality standards.
Lead the development of plans and activities of essential construction support functions to:
Ensure that Safety best practices are trained and followed.
Provide a positive and productive experience for all volunteers.
Ensure the timely development and permitting of house plans.
Continually review and value engineer existing and prospective home plans to develop target cost estimates for each neighborhood.
Oversee the Procurement of direct and indirect materials necessary to support safe and effective construction of homes in time to meet Construction Plan goals.
Work with cross functional departments to coordinate the family selection process and to assist the development team with donor requirements and events.
Land Acquisition and Development:
Lead all activities to define and gain agreement to a long-term Land Development Plan that supports the timing and volumes in the long-term construction plan.
Select, schedule, and manage consulting architects, engineers, and infrastructure contractors to complete required entitlement and infrastructure activities required by the Land Development Plan.
Manage with County Officials any unforeseen governmental compliance and permitting issues.
Coordinate the design and approval of new home plans according to the timeline in the Land Development Schedule.
Continually identify and evaluate land parcels for acquisition.
Continuous Improvement:
Lead the development of educational activities and training opportunities for all construction staff members to support the skills required for new home plans and new neighborhood configurations.
Lead the development and documentation of construction best practices and plans.
Description of Responsibilities:
Develop and manage detailed construction schedule that constructs homes in conformance with the Long-Term Construction Plan.
Monitor construction performance against the budget and AOP.
Define and apply metrics that gauge progress toward construction excellence.
Define and publish periodic reports on construction progress and report on construction status to the CEO and Board of Directors.
Define start up plans for each new neighborhood that include verification of correct house plans, permits and bills of material.
Organize and lead an ongoing process to improve construction materials and methods.
Ensure that supplier management and procurement practices support both short and long-term affiliate objectives.
Define activities that ensure positive volunteer experiences.
Oversee the hiring, evaluation and compensation of all members of the construction organization.
Ensure that safety training is conducted for construction employees and construction volunteers.
Continually monitor supplier material delivery and quality performance and participate in supplier selection.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated capability and extensive experience in large neighborhood home construction.
Must be knowledgeable of construction work requirements including county, state, and federal permitting approval processes.
Demonstrated capability to develop project plans and manage project completion including the coordination of internal and external resources.
Must be willing to do site work as required to support plan completion and verification of supplier work.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
Education/Licenses/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience sufficient to have demonstrated capability to successfully plan and manage major neighborhood construction projects.
Florida General Contractors license.
Proven experience demonstrating ability to successfully plan and manage major neighborhood construction projects.
Experience in working with the Collier County Government agencies preferred.
Proficient with Microsoft suite applications including Microsoft Project.
