This is a full-time on-site role for a Hospitalist at North Carolina Specialty Hospital in Durham, NC. The Hospitalist will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to patients, coordinating with the surgical team, managing and overseeing acute medical care needs through the continuum of pre-admission testing to post-op care.
Essential Job Functions:
Admission and treatment of medical and surgical hospitalist patients. Provide consultation as requested by attending physicians. Provision of internal medicine and critical care medical services to all hospitalized hospitalist patients, including medical coordination and inpatient utilization management for all surgical hospitalist patients. Assist in the coordination of all ancillary services related to the in-patient episode of care inclusive of durable medical equipment, home health and infusion services, etc. Physician will advise and assist Hospital staff regarding efficient and effective use of appropriate ancillary services, and will assist in identifying resource shortages, areas for improvement, barriers to better disposition planning and any areas that impede quality patient care. Timely and competent care, including early rounding on all hospitalist patients to facilitate the arrangement of discharge planning and care continuation by Hospital staff, including arrangement of skilled nursing facility and home health services. Performing pre-operative patient medical assessment during pre-admission work up. Responding to internal medicine emergency calls. Providing care to patients with medical conditions. Providing inpatient consults for surgeons. Perform rounds on patients in house from an internist perspective. Participate in teaching programs, in-service programs, training services of the Hospital or Medical Staff. Participate in the planning process necessary to maintain a proper level of internal medicine and critical care services; and Participate in administration of hospitalist services, such administration to include, but is not limited to, the selection and ordering of equipment and supplies, staffing patterns, budgeting, record keeping and relating with members of the Medical Staff. Physician shall perform such other duties commensurate with his/her position as may from time to time be reasonably requested of him by the Hospital’s Executive Director/Administrator, or the governing board. Education, Experience and Skills:
Medical degree and board certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine Experience in hospital medicine and managing complex medical cases. Strong clinical skills and ability to make critical decisions. Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of North Carolina. BLS, ACLS, PALS Effective communication skills; both orally and written. Computer skills needed. Ability to work with others within a team to ensure quality work. Strong problem-solving skills. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
