Job Title

: Infection Preventionist Location: New York, NY 10016 Initial Duration -

3+ months contract

Shift Time:

9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday Pay range: $80/hour on W2

Duties: Conduct ongoing infection control surveillance, prevention, and control program activities. Review patient charts to identify evidence of healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs) and apply National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) definitions. Identify and report infections through the use of an electronic surveillance system. Assist with investigations of clusters, outbreaks, and unusual infections or exposures. Review microbiology and virology reports for culture results that may represent multi-drug-resistant organisms, transmissible diseases, or HAIs. Use results to identify and categorize patients on the appropriate precautions. Perform surveillance activities to identify central line-associated bloodstream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, ventilator-associated pneumonias, and surgical site infections. Conduct infection prevention rounds to ensure a safe environment of care in all units and departments. Report cases to the NYCDOH.

Technical Skills:

Collect, tabulate, analyze, and interpret infection data and records. Communicate via e-mail and EPIC secure chat. Software Skills: EPIC (including EPIC Sugsy) must NHSN (National Healthcare Safety Network) NYCDOH (New York City Department of Health) NORA HERDS Excel Word

Workload & Utilization:

The position will require collaboration with the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) department to oversee infection prevention and control throughout the hospital. The Infection Preventionist will monitor and ensure infection control procedures across all units and departments. They will identify and report healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs), multi-drug-resistant organisms, and other infections.

Education Requirements:

Master's Degree in Epidemiology, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Nursing, or a related field from an accredited college or university, and four (4) years of clinical experience or experience in infection prevention and control, healthcare epidemiology, or a related field in a hospital or healthcare setting (preferred), OR

Baccalaureate Degree in Epidemiology, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Nursing, or a related field from an accredited college or university, and five (5) years of experience working in infection prevention and control, healthcare epidemiology, or a related field in a hospital or healthcare setting (preferred).

Certification: • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is required.
