Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.
Due to the available budget allocated for this position, the hiring rate will not exceed $28.10 per hour.
Why does the job exist?
This position will assemble, install and repair pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water and drainage systems.
How does it get done?
* Install, repair and maintain various types of plumbing systems * Supervise inmate work crews within an adult correctional facility
Who are the customers?
* New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD) staff * Public and private partners * Community members
Ideal Candidate
Experience with the following: * Working as a plumber * Working in other areas of maintenance * Operating vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalency and two (2) years of relevant experience in accordance with NMAC 14.8.2 New Mexico Plumbing Code. Must possess and maintain a Journeyman's Plumbers License with New Mexico Construction Industries.
Employment Requirements
This position is safety sensitive. Employment is subject to a pre-employment and random drug testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state rules and regulations regarding alcohol and/or drug testing. In addition, candidates must pass pre-employment Academy screening. Successful completion of the New Mexico Corrections Academy within one (1) year of hire is required. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen, must be at least 18 years old, have a least a high school education or its equivalent, be of good moral character, have not been convicted of a felony in the courts of this or any state or in the federal courts, and successfully pass any physical and aptitude examination the department may require. Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.
Statutory Requirements: Must possess and maintain a Journeyman's Plumber's License with New Mexico Construction Industries. This occupation is subject to regulation under NMAC 14.8.2 New Mexico Plumbing Code.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with and supervision of inmates. May be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
