DEAN, SCHOOL OF NURSING
MGH Institute of Health Professions
Massachusetts General Hospital
Boston, Massachusetts
The MGH Institute of Health Professions (the Institute) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean in the School of Nursing. The Dean is also appointed as the Associate Chief Nurse for Academic Affairs at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean will provide strategic vision and operational leadership for the School of Nursing's academic and scholarly programs. This role involves fostering a positive and collaborative work environment that supports excellence in teaching, practice, and research. Working closely with the faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners throughout Massachusetts General Hospital and the broader Mass General Brigham health system, the Dean will shape the future of nursing education, ensuring that the School continues to address the critical needs of the profession.
The next Dean will have a record of leadership in teaching, scholarship, and practice. Their credentials will merit appointment at the rank of full professor, including a doctoral degree (Ph.D. preferred); a graduate degree in nursing; licensure in nursing (or license eligible) in Massachusetts; a record of distinguished teaching and scholarship; and prior academic administrative experience is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will be a person of high integrity and an entrepreneurial leader with a strong record of collaborative leadership and commitment to academic excellence.
The Institute is an independent, not-for-profit health professions school accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education. Founded by MGH in 1977, the Institute has approximately 1,700 students enrolled and emphasizes interprofessional education across all degree programs. The Institute's School of Nursing offers the following programs accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE): accelerated BSN, direct-entry MS, MS-Advanced Practice Nursing (post-BSN), MS-Leadership in Nursing Education (post-BSN), and DNP. The School also offers a Certificate of Advanced Study in Nursing. In AY24-25, more than 550 students were enrolled across the nursing degree programs. There are 55 full-time and part-time faculty members and more than 3800 alumni. The School is part of the Massachusetts General Hospital and is the only degree-granting affiliate of Mass General Brigham.
