Reviews and processes building applications including site and field inspections, plan review and verification of compliance of construction with applicable codes, consistent with the organization's values and mission statement. City of Aspen inspectors ensure the safety, efficiency, and integrity of Aspen's world-class-built environment by maintaining the highest level of training and professionalism in the industry. Supervision Exercised and Received:
This position works under the direct supervision of the Deputy Chief Building Official. Essential Job Functions: Building Inspections:
Inspects and evaluates residential and commercial systems, both new and existing, to ensure that appropriate codes are maintained and enforced. Operates a city vehicle and conducts daily building inspections at construction sites to determine compliance with model building codes. Plans Examination:
Reviews construction plans and permits for compliance with applicable building codes and issues building permits. Prepares communication to customers regarding model code requirements and deficiencies of plans. Customer Service:
Provides expert, timely customer service to all internal and external Community Development customers. Serves as building department technical expert and resource. Technology and Records Management:
Fosters a culture of innovation in the Building Department and works to become a subject matter expert in daily duties which require the use of technology. Minimum Requirements: Education: Bachelor's degree. Experience: Level I: No prior inspection experience. One year of professional level working experience. Level II: One year of professional level inspection experience. Level III: Three years of professional level inspection experience. Technical Knowledge: Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and have a working knowledge of computers and online technology applications. Licenses & Certifications: Must possess an International Code Council (ICC) Plans Examiner and Building Inspector Certification or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
