Description Planning Lead - DFW Role Description:
Huitt-Zollars, Inc. is seeking a highly qualified design professional to serve as a Planning Lead for Dallas/Fort Worth. This position will be located at our Dallas office. The Planning Lead for Dallas/Fort Worth will build and supervise a team based in Dallas/Fort Worth, collaborating with teams across the company. They will be the planning business development lead for the greater DFW market, including both transit agencies and cities, collaborating with the Director of Planning and Proactive Area Leaders on major pursuits and handling smaller ones independently. They will also serve as the business development lead for specific transit agencies across the United States as assigned. They will support pursuits in other geographies that suit their skills and experience with vice presidents in other offices. Location:

Salary Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Planning, or Architecture. Duties: Serve as Project Manager for planning projects across multiple market sectors, including transit planning, ped/bike planning, land use planning, and public outreach efforts. Develop, oversee, and monitor project activities including scope, budget, and schedule management. Coordinate with clients and sub-consultants to research existing conditions, develop recommendations, create reports, make presentations, and run public outreach. Build and supervise a planning team for the Dallas/Fort Worth office, including hiring, mentoring, and guiding professional development. Manage project staff including planners, engineers, and architects to execute planning projects. Market target clients by maintaining a presence at local events, regularly meeting with clients, and tracking future projects. Present at conferences nationally. Develop and maintain relationships with other consulting firms for partnering on projects. Lead proposal preparation including oral presentations. Support other Vice Presidents in assembling proposals for projects that require planning support. Prepare scope, schedule, and budget for new projects. Participate in Office Leadership including assisting with Workload Projections, Annual Business Plan, Growth Strategies, Recruiting, and Staff Development. Support company-wide planning initiatives. Key Responsibilities: Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and may be responsible for a stated portion of office sales goal. Assists and/or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develops and/or executes project Win strategy. Successfully and consistently functions as Lead Principal-in-Charge for their designated Practice Area in geographic market. Competent, knowledgeable, service leader in the market(s) they service. Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations. Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensures proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects. Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Leads successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client). Verifies client satisfaction routinely and shares feedback with team. Proactively works with PM to strategize resolving issues that impact project performance. Reviews progress with PM at least monthly (including & completes vs. % spent) and that PM is adhering to weekly rhythm. Successfully contributes to the overall profitability and financial performance on projects. Minimum 10 years of planning experience. Registration is not required, but AICP or another relevant criteria is desirable. We would expect someone who does not have a registration to pursue AICP as soon as possible. Huitt-Zollars supports its staff in pursuing and maintaining relevant registrations and credentials, including AICP, AIA, PE, and LEED. Proven experience in Marketing & Business Development including writing proposals and preparing oral presentations or experience with selecting consultants in the public sector. Relationships with planning clients in the Dallas/Fort Worth market. Proficient in graphics, project management, scheduling, and financial tools. Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communications skills. Ability to interact with clients and multi-discipline team members.
