POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Purchasing Specialist
role will support the purchasing and category management teams in executing tactics in product, pricing, promotions, and inventory placement to support the organization's overall strategy objectives across diverse business categories such as tires, parts, and services.
The primary responsibilities of this role involve conducting comprehensive market research, collaborating with stakeholders to build robust data sets, and executing product assortment objectives. This involves not only identifying the most suitable products for inclusion in the inventorybut also establishing optimal stocking levels to ensure efficient supply chain management and effectively meeting customer demand, thus driving the organization’s success in the competitive marketplace.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
Build and update SKUs with vendor information and supporting stores, ensuring alignment with store requirements. Conduct thorough research on competitive retail pricing to inform pricing strategies. Update, upload cost and retail price changes accurately and in a timely manner. Facilitate smooth product transitions and implement changes to stocking-level plans for stores across various business categories. Update and manage reports across multiple data sets to track performance and inform decision-making processes. Regularly update and distribute reoccurring reports to strategic vendors to maintain and foster strong relationships. Monitor inventory levels and implement replenishment measures to maintain adequate stock levels while minimizing excess inventory and associated costs. Execute purchase orders efficiently to ensure timely procurement of products. Evaluate and assist in supplier and vendor performance reviews to identify areas for improvement and maintain strong supplier relationships. Provide support to other members of the purchasing and category management teams as needed. Undertake ad hoc and special projects as assigned to support departmental objectives and strategic initiatives. WHAT YOU BRING WITH YOU
Knowledge and understanding of procurement principles, procedures, and best practices, including sourcing strategies and vendor management. Basic understanding of contract management practices, supply chain concepts, and logistics processes, including inventory management and distribution network. Ability to conduct market research and analysis to identify trends, competitive landscaping, and pricing dynamics. Basic understanding of financial concepts such as cost analysis, budgeting, and profitability metrics to inform procurement decisions. Ability to assess and prioritize objectives effectively, ensuring alignment with business priorities. Ability to work effectively in a team environment, fostering collaboration. Comfort level in navigating ambiguous situations, flexibility in approach, adaptability, and agility in responding to business problems and opportunities. Strong verbal and written communication skills, keen attention to detail, accuracy, and critical thinking. A developed sense of integrity and ability to uphold the highest ethical standards. Possess a creative, innovative, and disruptive mindset, constantly looking for solutions. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Excel, and Word. Key Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough research to become the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for your assigned categories. Manage day-to-day business needs for your categories. Execute purchase orders efficiently to ensure the timely procurement of services, as applicable. Manage reporting across multiple vendors, categories, and locations. Track performance and spending and identify action items for improvement. Develop, implement, and monitor Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with vendors. Evaluate and assist in the performance reviews of suppliers and vendors. Identify areas for improvement and maintain strong supplier relationships. Provide support to other members of the purchasing and category management teams as needed. Managing indirect services (trash, shop gas, waste fluids, etc.) Undertake ad hoc and special projects as assigned to support departmental objectives and strategic initiatives. EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum one year of experience in a retail environment or purchasing function. Social experience in supply chain management or procurement functions is beneficial. Experience and familiarity with the automotive sector is a plus. Strong analytical and research skills. Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite. Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and efficiency.
