Position Summary
Academic Advising is an essential element of a student's collegiate experience. Morehouse College will select a professional advisor to serve as Academic Advising Specialists. The Specialist will work collaboratively and intentionally with the Department Chairs, and Faculty Academic Advisors of the academic division assigned to develop a success plan and a plan of action to address the needs of all students in respective departments. The Academic Advising Specialist will be selected for the Division of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM).
The Academic Advising Specialist reports to the Director of Divisional Academic Advising. Excellent customer service skills and effective verbal and written communication skills are a must.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree and 4 years of academic advising experience required Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree Significant coursework in the area of specialization for division unit served (Division of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics), and/or significant relevant work experience in academic advising preferred Project management experience/skills Preferred Education/Experience
Master's degree Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of student development concepts, NACADA principles, practices and procedures in academic advising strategies Proficiency in Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook Must have working knowledge of BANNER Ability to work independently and collaboratively Strong organizational and administrative skills to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines Excellent communication and interpersonal problem-solving skills are a must Experience working with underrepresented populations Physical Demands

The Academic Advising Specialist assesses and advises students regarding information, procedures and academic requirements specific to the student's discipline, as well as the general education requirements of Morehouse College
Provide Appreciative, Developmental, Intrusive/Intentional Advising (ADISA-Yoruba for "one who has clarity") for all first time students, focusing on incoming freshmen and new transfer students Facilitates student academic success and timely progress towards degree through advising and assisting students with college adjustments and decisions about fields of study, developing a plan-of-study, curricular and course selections, academic and administrative procedures, policies and services Assists students in establishing realistic and attainable academic and career goals Monitors academic progress of students Maintains student files in Starfish Other duties as assigned
