Description
Research Faculty hold a greater than 0.50 FTE position at Children's National Hospital and must meet the requirements for a full Faculty appointment at the George Washington University, School of Medicine and Health Sciences, with the expectation for developing and conducting research and securing outside grant and contract fundings for scholarly research activities. The faculty member is responsible for generating and testing hypotheses related to a field of research by initiating, carrying out and managing research projects/programs supported by external, peer-reviewed sources. The individual may also be responsible for other job-specific academic and service activities, supervising and advising laboratory, graduate and post-doctoral staff and students, developing educational programs and teaching assignments and publishing in recognized, peer-reviewed journals, and/or presenting at conferences or symposiums. The research faculty member participates actively as a member of the Children's National Research Institute community: on administrative committees, search committees, strategic initiatives, and student advising.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) (Required) Or
Medical Doctor (M.D.) (Required)
Minimum Work Experience
2 years Progressive specialized experience in a field of research. (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge
Demonstrated potential to make unique contributions in their research field.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
Demonstrated ability to secure external funding, develop manuscripts and deliver presentations.
Functional Accountabilities
Responsible Conduct of Research
Consistently demonstrates adherence to the standards for the responsible conduct of research.
Plans, conducts and manages research projects within federal and institutional regulations and policies under the direction of the principal investigator.
Uses research funds and resources appropriately.
Maintains confidentiality of data as required.
Meets all annual job-related training and compliance requirements.
Commitment to Research
Plan and conducts original and/or assigned research of significant scientific value in the basic and/or translational science area(s) relevant to practice specialty.
Participates in reviewing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
Publishes in peer-reviewed, scientific, quality and management journals.
Submits applications for grants or contracts for funding of research projects.
Participates in research committees, workshops and special interest groups.
Collaborates with research teams, industry stakeholders and government agencies.
Responsible for managing and supervising research staff and assisting post-graduate, graduate and undergraduate fellows and students in area of expertise.
Teaching
Participates in educational programs and teaching assignments.
Mentors graduate and post-doctoral students.
Supervises staff and students.
