Position Summary
The University of Denver is looking for a candidate to fill the position of Assistant GIS Analyst in the Facilities Management and Planning Division; with a commitment to the work it does, and can demonstrate their technical creativity, detail-orientation, efficiency, and enthusiasm. The candidate must be a strong team player, self-directed and able to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment, curious about spatial relationships and its related software technology, and shows a strong commitment to and passion for ongoing supervised and independent learning on the job.
The position is designed to equip a recent graduate with practical GIS and Space Management skills, that focuses on a hands-on approach, combining foundational knowledge with real-world projects within the scopes that center on building technical proficiency, data acquisition, data processing and analyses, and data management, GIS applications and real-time practical exposur
The Assistant GIS Analyst will provide support for ongoing mapping projects, from collecting and cleaning to mapping data; extra actionable insights from trends, patterns, and spatial relationships; present spatial analytics in high-quality maps and written materials, as needed. Furthermore, the ability to assist in designing, developing, and maintaining a centralized geographic information system - Indoors (Infrastructural and Space management), and Outdoors (Layers and Domestic Utility features), that accommodates use by all departments. The position requires effective contribution to the ongoing digitization and drafting, using GIS and AutoCAD-LT software, and the use of peripheral devices, for an integrated spatial database, needed to validate and produce floor plans as required for space management, as well as outdoor detailed 2D and 3D maps. These functions further requires routine troubleshooting and maintenance of multiple GIS workstations, scripting, and programming.
This is a non-benefited, part-time position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.
Essential Functions
Collect, clean, and prepare geospatial data to support mapping projects and utility verification. Wrangle large, complex datasets. Prepare and update GIS solutions for review and approval, enabling geospatial data analysis and visualization, and ensuring maps produced with ESRI software and program scripts meet quality standards. Prepare update to Revit BIM files (i.e., floor plan dimensions, assigned square footage, room types, missing building exterior features etc.), using AutoCAD software, ensuring all changes are ready for review and ap Assist the Space Management team by preparing and documenting room numbering datasets for review and approval, supporting the implementation of ArcGIS Indoors to optimize space usage within the campus. Prepare and collate tree inventory data to support the University of Denver's campus-wide Alter Arboretum campaign, ensuring datasets are reviewed and approved before contributing to the creation of a robust Arbor map Strict adherence to maintenance processes and standards established for mapping, space management, documentation, data storage and retrieval, programming, and overall quality. Follow-up with departments (where and when required), to define GIS needs. Evaluate needs with supervisor to develop streamlined projects operating procedures to include goals, priorities, and schedules. Identify and propose solutions for GIS workstation issues, preparing recommendations for review and approval before implementing maintenance actions Assist in developing time-saving enhancements and simplifications in programming languages, preparing scripts to manage spatial data stored in the geodatabase for review and approval. Diligently follow through a l designed on-the-job technical trainings and perform all work duties and other related tasks as assigned.
Assist with preparation and presentation of research reports. Present place-based and spatial-relationships findings and contribute maps and written materials to reports, publications and proposals. Demonstrated knowledge of geography, GIS, or a related field such as cartography.
Proficient programming skills in ESRI-based ArcGIS programs, and Data management applications (i.e., Python, SQL etc.), and other relevant tools. Proficient skills in spatial data analysis and management.
Ability to perform all aspects of the position within managerial guidance. Required Qualifications
Must have attained a Bachelor's degree OR in the last quarter/semester while pursuing a Bachelor or Associate Degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Cartography, or related experience in the field requ Preferred Qualifications
Experiential Knowledge in GIS related fields - Environmental Modeling, Database Design, Database Management, Data Analysis.
Knowledge and experience with contemporary GIS Software including features like Web GIS, Data visualization techniques, scripting capabilities, and the ability to create interactive maps or other cloud-based GIS services Proven knowledge in Cartographic Design, Remote Sensing Must be proficient in Microsoft Suite, ENVI, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop. AutoCAD REVIT (for floor plans managements) is an added advantage.
