Job Description
The Palmer In-Court Division of the Alaska Court System (ACS) is recruiting for a Courtroom Judicial Assistant (range 12) who will be responsible for creating and maintaining a quality record of all court proceedings.
Regular job duties of this fast-paced position will include the following!
The Position Ensure the production of a clear and understandable record of court proceedings by monitoring the electronic recording equipment; maintain detailed, accurate, and legible log notes; maintain and promote proper decorum in apparel and demeanor; Prepare the courtroom for daily hearings: set up, organize, and maintain the courtroom including operation and testing of equipment; recognize damaged or malfunctioning equipment and take appropriate action to troubleshoot and correct when possible; Facilitate timeliness of hearings by gathering parties, calling for in-custody defendants, placing calls to parties for telephonic hearings, and relaying information to the judge or judicial assistant; Administer oaths, distribute temporary orders, pre-sentence orders, and other paperwork as required. Responsible for the care and maintenance of exhibits: ensure exhibits are marked, listed on the exhibit list, properly accounted for, and stored during trial and returned to parties or put into storage at end of trial; Responsible for the safety, comfort, and wellbeing of jurors during jury trials; responsible for playback of testimony during deliberations; When out of court, assist other court departments and perform other duties as assigned by the Clerk of Court. An ideal applicant will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience performing multiple tasks with frequent interruptions and remaining calm, organized, and accurate. Excellent organizational skills and experience establishing priorities. Experience in providing excellent customer service, both in person and over the telephone. Outstanding work habits regarding punctuality, attendance, and dependability. Experience dealing with high-priority, confidential, or sensitive information. Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
The Work Schedule
Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).
Substitution:
Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
