This position is currently undergoing review as a part of the IT job class study and therefore both the title and the pay range assigned may be subject to change upon the completion of the study.
This position is open to Alaska Residents only.

What you will be doing: The Environmental Health Lab (EHL) is recruiting for an IT Systems Support Specialist (Intermediate/Advanced) to act as the only onsite IT support that ranges from: network support workstations instrument computers peripherals databases servers as well as enterprise, and business line software such as: Microsoft Office Suite Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) quality management fire, intrusion, and security systems temperature monitoring building automation. This position will also perform: SQL queries use Crystal Reports perform website management and support application upgrades and testing They are responsible for maintaining inventories for equipment, hardware, and software including proper tagging and disposal records. This position also participates in the management team supporting our ISO 17025 accreditation. This position operates in a dynamic work environment that is often fast paced and is subject to frequent interruptions and frequently changing priorities and will require an individual with exceptional organizational and self-management skills.

This IT Systems Support Specialist (Intermediate/Advanced) will join a team of staff to produce high quality, timely, and legally defensible data by performing regulatory testing on food, dairy, shellfish, seafood, waters, and more to ensure the health and safety of consumers in Alaska and worldwide, support commercial industries, and overall environmental health.

The working environment you can expect: The EHL is in a standalone building near the U-Med district in Anchorage, Alaska with easy, free parking, close to public transportation with sidewalks, and access to Far North Bicentennial Park and Campbell Tract trails, as well as frequent wildlife viewing. The EHL also has bike racks and shower facilities for those that use alternate transportation or lunch time exercise (walk, run, ski or bike, etc.).

Knowledge of architectural methodologies used in the design and development of information systems, including the physical structure of a system's internal operations and interactions with other systems. Planning and Evaluating:
Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes. Problem Solving:
Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Special Notice: This position requires working in areas of the lab where pathogenic organisms such as, but not limited to, E. coli, Listeria, Salmonella, Staphylococcus, Vibrio, and Brucella have been used; common allergens including shellfish, crustaceans, rodents, and feathers; and areas where corrosive chemicals such as hydrochloric and nitric acid are used. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is available and may be required in some instances. This position may be expected to participate in an on-call rotation to be the point of contact for temperature or building issues after hours, weekends and holidays, approximately every 4-6 weeks, and will receive additional standby pay during this time. One year of this experience must have been in a business application, scientific application, microcomputer or computer information management support specialty. Substitution: A bachelor's degree with a major in Computer Science (CS) or Computer Information Systems (CIS) or a related degree with (18) semester/(24) quarter hours of CS or CIS may substitute for one year of the required experience. An associate's degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems may substitute for nine months of the required experience. Special Note: An applicant who is considered under the

above qualifies to apply for this job class IF the applicable coursework is completed within three (3) months of hire. Under this option, an applicant may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of completion will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.
