Job Overview:
We are seeking a talented and experienced Data Modeler to join our Data Operations team. This individual will play a pivotal role in understanding business processes and how they are enabled by data platforms. The Data Modeler will lead the design of data models and collaborate with technical architects and business stakeholders to ensure that data solutions align with business objectives and drive impactful decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead Data Model Design:
Design and implement logical and physical data models that support business processes and ensure efficient data storage, retrieval, and integration. Business Process Understanding:
Work closely with business analysts and stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into data model designs that optimize business processes. Collaboration with Technical Architects:
Partner with technical architects to ensure that data model designs are aligned with platform architecture, security standards, and scalability requirements. Data Governance:
Ensure data models are compliant with data governance policies, ensuring high-quality data and consistency across systems. Data Platform Enablement:
Design data models that leverage the capabilities of data platforms (cloud, on-premises, hybrid) to enable real-time, scalable, and reliable business insights. Integration & ETL Design:
Collaborate on ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) strategies and data integration, ensuring the smooth flow of data across systems and its readiness for analysis and reporting. Continuous Improvement:
Monitor and optimize existing data models for performance and maintainability, ensuring they evolve to meet the changing needs of the business. Stakeholder Engagement:
Engage with business leaders and other stakeholders to understand evolving business needs and anticipate changes that could impact data model requirements. Documentation & Best Practices:
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation on data models, standards, and best practices for data management and design. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus. Proven experience (5+ years) as a Data Modeler or in a similar data-related role. Strong understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling techniques (e.g., Star Schema, Snowflake Schema, Entity-Relationship Diagrams). Expertise in data modeling tools (e.g., Erwin, Microsoft Visio, IBM InfoSphere Data Architect). Hands-on experience with data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, SQL, NoSQL). Solid understanding of business process modeling and how data models support business objectives. Experience with data integration, ETL processes, and data warehousing concepts. Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and best practices in data management. Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including business users and IT teams. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in the healthcare industry
is preferred, including understanding of healthcare data models, regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA), and industry-specific challenges. Experience with cloud-based data platforms (Snowflake is preferred). Familiarity with advanced analytics tools and platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau or Qlik). Certification in data modeling or data architecture (e.g., DAMA, CDMP). Familiarity with Agile or other project management methodologies. Key Competencies: Analytical Thinking:
Ability to analyze complex data requirements and translate them into clear data model structures. Collaboration:
Strong teamwork skills, working effectively with cross-functional teams including business analysts, architects, and developers. Problem Solving:
