Job Description

35% - Supervise the residents in the detention center. Conduct group and individual counseling sessions. Encourage the youth to participate in social, recreational, and educational activities provided by the center. Supervise activities (arts, crafts, sports, games, etc.) and instruct/participate in programs. Assign housekeeping tasks daily, eat meals with youths, supervise seating and behavior. May assist in transportation of youths, assist in admission and release, and maintain daily log of activities.

25% - Document incidents, movements, visits, admissions/releases, or any security related events. Write and review various forms of paperwork and participate on the review panel for hearing infractions.

15% - serve as lead or supervisor, classification specialist, or nurse in their absence.

15% - resolve crisis situations between residents, respond to behavior issues of detained youth, determine if youths have committed an infraction. Maintain basic discipline and control with constant observation.

10% - relieve the control room operator on a regular basis, monitor the movement of the facility in a safe/secure manner.

Skills and Requirements

Associates degree in Human Services, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or related

Experience working in a secure detention environment or with at risk youth

Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Drivers License

CPR and first aid certification (or willing to get) n/a null
