The Shelter Advocate at Crisis Line & Safe House of Central Georgia serves as the motivator, mentor, and supervisor working with clients and ensures that each client is given every opportunity to gain a life free of domestic violence.

Essential Job Functions as Shelter Advocate:

Acts as shift manager on weekends and holidays

Keeps shelter safe and secure at all times, is responsible for the safety of residents

Answers crisis calls during shift

Collects and maintains detailed statistical data pertaining to all calls

Provides crisis intervention and referrals for clients

Screens client appropriateness for shelter entrance when admission is needed and contacts on-call staff as needed

Completes intake of in-coming clients and children

Completes all resident paperwork

Provides verbal, positive support for clients

Instructs, supervises, and helps implement housekeeping chores required of residents

Resolves client conflicts and misconduct when necessary

Helps clients adjust to communal living

Keeps all records for attending shift, with complete documentation and information for Shelter Manager and other staff

Records, logs, and stores all material donations

Performs clerical tasks as requested by Shelter Manager

Attends to other duties as may be assigned

Manages day-to-day operation of shelter during midnight shift

Maintains confidential client files and agency statistics for program

Serves as an active and supportive team member and participates in work processes as identified

Maintains communication with Shelter Manager and alerts her to any major problems or high-risk situations

Non-essential Job Functions:

Assists in office coverage when necessary

Assists in other areas such as shelter advocacy when needed

Requirements of Position Applicants:

Possess a background in victim advocacy

Possess an understanding of domestic violence dynamics

Able to work independently

Able to utilize the resources available both in the community and in-house.

Obtain CPR/ First Aid Training

Pass criminal background check

Willing to submit to random drug screenings

Willing to adhere to all shelter policies and procedures

Other Skills/Abilities:

Organizational skills

Problem solving skills

Ability to learn to use TTY machine

Ability to use all office equipment (Microsoft included)
