Founded in the early 1970s by four African American women in Peekskill, New York, our organization was established to address the lack of accessible health services in their community. Over the years, Sun River Health has expanded to become a comprehensive Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) system with over 45 locations serving more than 250,000 patients across the Hudson Valley, New York City, and Long Island. In December 2018, Sun River Health expanded its reach by merging with Brightpoint Health, further enhancing our ability to provide integrated medical, behavioral, and social support services to the communities we serve.
Position Overview We are currently seeking a skilled and compassionate Neurologist to join our healthcare team on a part-time basis. The Neurologist will be responsible for diagnosing and treating neurological conditions, managing complex cases, and providing educational support to patients to improve their health outcomes. This is a part-time position based at our community health centers in the Hudson Valley, New York City, and Long Island, offering an opportunity to serve an underserved population while working in a collaborative environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive neurological evaluations and physical assessments to diagnose neurological conditions, including stroke, epilepsy, dementia, and other neurodegenerative disorders. Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as MRIs, CT scans, EEGs, and other neurological assessments to formulate treatment plans. Prescribe and manage treatment plans, including medications, lifestyle recommendations, and therapeutic interventions. Provide patient education on neurological disorders, including prevention, treatment options, and lifestyle modifications. Work closely with primary care teams, behavioral health professionals, and other specialists to ensure coordinated and holistic patient care. Document patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR) while adhering to legal and regulatory requirements. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to ensure optimal patient care and safety. Maintain required certifications and licenses, including ABPN Neurology Certification, CPR/BLS-HCP, and active DEA registration. Engage in continuing education and professional development to stay current with advancements in neurology. Minimum Education Requirement
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) with a focus on Neurology. Board-certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Minimum Work Experience
5-8 years of clinical experience as a Neurologist, preferably within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or a similar healthcare setting. Preferred Work Experience
8+ years of experience in neurology with a proven track record of providing patient-centered care. Experience in treating underserved populations or within community health settings is a plus. Licensure
Active and unrestricted license to practice as a Neurologist in the State of New York. Board certification in Neurology by the ABPN. Current CPR/BLS-HCP certification. Active DEA registration. Required Skills & Knowledge
Proficient in diagnosing and managing a variety of neurological conditions. Expertise in interpreting diagnostic imaging and tests related to neurology. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Ability to provide compassionate and patient-centered care. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate and collaborate with patients and multidisciplinary teams. Ability to manage complex, high-volume caseloads in a fast-paced environment. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are preferred but not required. Salary
