Responsibilities Clinical focus: Evaluation and treatment of swallowing, motor speech, language and cognition with adults in acute care. Training to achieve competence in clinical swallow evaluations, Modified Barium Swallow Studies, and speaking valve evaluation and management will be provided. in addition, exposure to Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing, High-Resolution Pharyngeal Manometry and ventilator dependent communication evaluation/management will also be available.

Exposure to a variety of patient populations including, but not limited to stroke, trauma, medical/surgical, critical care, ICU and oncology.One-on-one mentorship with experienced SLPs.

Didactic experience, including participation in a six-part, multidisciplinary acute care education series. Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC) is a distinguished teaching hospital located near downtown Dallas and is continually recognized as a top hospital in the nation. BUMC provides multiple clinical specialties, including Level 1 trauma services, transplantation, Level III NICU, left-ventricular assist (LVAD) implantation, Stroke Center and a dedicated cancer hospital. Therapists have the opportunity to rotate positions between teams, providing the opportunity to expand their treatment skills across a variety of diagnoses and to develop clinical specializations.

Qualifications • Current state licensure or eligibility for state licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist required.• Current Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language & Hearing Association or eligibility for Certification pending professional experience (CFY - Clinical Fellowship Year) preferred.• Certified BLS or completion in first 90 days of employment required.
