Form Energy, Inc., Somerville, Massachusetts, us, 02145
Are you ready to build America's energy future? Form Energy is an American energy technology and manufacturing company. We are pioneering a new class of iron-air batteries to enable our electric grid to run on clean, reliable and affordable energy, every day of the year.
Over the past few years, Form Energy and our iron-air batteries have received numerous accolades, including being named a "Best Invention" by TIME, a "Top Climate Tech Company To Watch" by MIT Technology Review, and "One of the Next Big Things in Tech" by Fast Company. We are making rapid progress on our mission of delivering energy storage for a better world, and are growing just as rapidly to meet demand. We have signed contracts with leading electric utilities across the United States. Pilot production of our iron-air batteries has already begun, and this year, production will take off to high volumes at our new factory in West Virginia.
Working for Form Energy is more than just a job, it's a chance to be part of something extraordinary. And right now might be the most exciting moment in the company's history to join. We are assembling a team of exceptionally talented and driven individuals across the country. Driven by our core values of humanity, excellence, and creativity, our team is determined to deliver on our mission and transform the energy landscape for the better.
Feeling energized to make a meaningful impact on the world? Then keep reading - you've come to the right place.
Role Description
Form Energy is hiring a Staff Electrochemical Stack Engineer to advance next-generation electrochemical technologies from bench scale to multicell stack prototypes. You will lead development, testing, and performance and durability improvement efforts for first of a kind electrochemical stacks. This role reports into our head of Form Futures. Form Futures is responsible for creating a valuable product pipeline, including early-stage prototypes and technology demonstrators. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a dynamic team to help define a new generation of products at a fast-moving company with an impactful mission.
What you'll do:
Lead the development of electrochemical, sensor, and safety systems for electrochemical stacks. Design, perform, and analyze electrochemical tests to assess performance and durability of stack prototypes and auxiliary systems. Develop methods to diagnose failure mechanisms and perform FMEA in collaboration with electrochemists, materials scientists, and mechanical engineers. Build performance models to execute trade studies and enhance stack efficiency and durability. Critically analyze and interpret experimental data, write reports, and present results to the broader organization. Translate scaled prototypes into early product concepts, including preliminary system-level design and modeling. What you'll bring:
B.S. with 7 to 10 years of professional experience or M.S./Ph.D. with 2+ years of professional experience with a focus on electrochemical systems and/or industrial electrochemistry. Degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrochemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent. Hands-on experience developing and testing fuel cells, electrolyzers, or flow batteries, including single cells, multicell stacks, and subsystems necessary to support continuous operation. Advanced quantitative understanding of electrochemistry, thermodynamics, and kinetics with ability to apply models to optimize electrochemical systems. Demonstrated ability to rapidly design, test, and improve upon first of a kind electrochemical systems at the stack level. Deep understanding of the interaction between design, performance, durability, and cost in electrochemical systems. Proficiency in electrochemical characterization techniques and associated instrumentation including cyclic voltammetry, potentiometry, galvanostatic and potentiostatic testing, and impedance spectroscopy. Ability to clearly articulate technical concepts and decision making across different teams and levels within the organization.
