Tesla's Environmental Health, Safety and Security (EHS&S) team supports all Tesla Engineering, Manufacturing and Sales/Service/Delivery functions in our shared mission to accelerate to a sustainable tomorrow by being safe, fair, and fun today. Tesla is seeking an ambitious Sr. EHS Specialist to support the Gigafactory New York facility located in Buffalo, New York. They will use human and organizational principles to drive ownership of safety, health, and environmental impacts, with a focus on engagement, learning from events, training, and systems-level problem solving.
The candidate will develop, implement, and continuously improve programs within the EHS Management System framework in partnership with the broader EHS and Gigafactory teams. They will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, and conformance to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
Responsibilities
Drive manufacturing department EHS outcomes through leadership and employee engagement in alignment with the business and EHS strategies Actively work with stakeholders to ensure that production and facility changes result in improved controls of risks to health, safety, and the environment Provide technical support for EHS programs such as LOTO, Fall Protection, Emergency Response, Cranes and Hoists, Powered Industrial Vehicles, Respiratory Protection, etc Lead event learning/incident investigations to identify contributing factors and collaborate on preventive and corrective measures. Analyze event trends and use risk-assessment methods to identify continuous improvement projects that reduce injury, illness, and environmental impact events Participate in pre-job planning and verification of controls/safeguards before new, high risk, and non-standard work begins. Partner with EHS specialties (Environmental, Construction Safety, Equipment Safety, EHS Systems and Tools, EHS Training, etc.) as needed to ensure effective service delivery Monitor and administer EHS systems and tools used onsite (e.g., event reporting, performance dashboards, action trackers, management of change, etc.). Develop new procedures, inspections, training, or reports as needed. Develop and conduct EHS training and facilitate workshops with onsite teams Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Safety or Environmental Engineering, Safety Process Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or other Safety related discipline; or equivalent experience Minimum 5 years work experience as an environmental, health or safety professional, preferably in a manufacturing, oil & gas, construction, or similar workplace Proficient in developing and implementing EHS programs compliant with OSHA requirements, along with demonstrated knowledge of hazard analysis, process safety, root cause analysis methodologies, and OSHA compliance Strong experience in applying government and regulatory EHS regulations across various operational settings, coupled with advanced problem-solving skills, and the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines; Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to learn from and teach others Proven skills in managing complex, multidisciplinary projects and assignments with accountability for outcomes Well organized with meticulous attention to detail; Excellent written and verbal communicator with technical and non-technical audiences; Mastery of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Compensation and Benefits Benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
