Position: Middle School Guidance Counselor

Reports to: Middle School Principal

Granted funded position for 2024-25SY

Qualifications:
  • Must be a Licensed Professional Counselor
  • Master's Degree in Counseling Education
  • Extensive experience working with youth, families and community organizations preferred
  • Experience in the development and facilitation of professional development
  • Experience in working in a multi-cultural environment dealing with diversity issues
  • Experience with female relational aggression issues
  • Experience with master scheduling; creating/building student schedules

Performance Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct developmental guidance lessons in the classroom and in large groups.
  2. Facilitate the integration of the guidance curriculum into the educational curricula.
  3. Select topics and resources consistent with school identified objectives.
  4. Conduct orientation activities for students new to the school.
  5. Provide grade level-middle school through postsecondary-transitional activities.
  6. Assist students with developing educational plans.
  7. Provide school-to-career guidance activities using available resources.
  8. Provide scholarship information and support guidance in applications.
  9. Administer standardized tests.
  10. Interpret standardized test results.
  11. Assist the administration with the school testing program.
  12. Conduct structured, goal-oriented counseling sessions in response to identified needs of individuals and groups of students.
  13. Assist in the identification of "at-risk" students.
  14. Assist in the administration of the Academic Crisis Team.
  15. Consult with and serve as a resource for teachers, staff, and parents regarding the developmental needs of students.
  16. Conduct in-service programs for faculty and staff.
  17. Maintain records to document interactions, interventions, and decisions.
  18. Refer students and their parents to community agencies, programs, or specialists as appropriate.
  19. Participate in the evaluation and revision of the school guidance program.
  20. Fulfill professional responsibilities:
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Maintain records consistent with ethical and legal guidelines
  • Participate on the school-based crisis team
  • Perform responsibilities in an organized, accurate, timely and dependable manner
  • Assist students with course selections which are the most challenging and appropriate for graduation requirements and career plans
  • Operate within the established district and school procedures and policies
  • Attend district in-services and meetings
  • Keep informed of current professional trends
