Overview

COpley Hospital, located in Morrisville/Stowe VT, is in search of a Forensic Nurse to join our team. Forensic Nurse Examiners (FNEs) conduct forensic examinations of victims of sexual assault in a compassionate manner. A forensic exam may include a medical-forensic exam, prophylaxis for pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, photographic documentation and referrals for appropriate follow-up support.

This is a Per Diem position (FT/PT available) wherein the FNEs enter into a pool of FNEs that will work together to respond to calls as needed. A predetermined schedule will be set.

Responsibilities
  • Providing compassionate & prompt care and services to victims of sexual assault that takes place within Lamoille County
  • Conducting medical/forensic examinations
  • Obtaining historical information regarding the incident and health status of the individual during sexual assault evaluations
  • Assessing and evaluating injuries that a victim of sexual assault has suffered
  • Collecting, processing, ensuring and maintaining appropriate chain of custody of both clinical and non-clinical specimens and forensic medical records
  • Preparing complete and accurate reports
  • Identifying and facilitating care for injuries that require medical treatment and making the appropriate referrals for follow-up medical and psychological care
  • Providing fact and expert testimony on examination procedures, clinical findings and program policies/procedures
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, rules, regulations & goals

  • Identifies & applies age specific safety needs when performing job duties in the following circumstances: disaster/evacuation, transfer of patients, minimizing security risks, restraints/immobilization devices, use of equipment.
  • Integrates various aspects of specific knowledge for the patient populations served within unit area of hire: applies knowledge of expected norms in planning interventions. Demonstrates integration of knowledge, skills, and abilities for the patient populations served in unit of care.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • The specific patient population may include children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics, per appropriate certification.
Qualifications

Education Required:

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing

License and Certification Required:

  • Active Vermont RN licence in good standing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Current qualification as Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner
