The University Admissions Counselor is responsible for student recruitment, counseling, reviewing admissions applications, representing the university at local and regional recruitment events, and coordinating special on and off-campus recruitment programs. The role involves 8 weeks of travel during peak season, visiting 3 schools per day for 5 days a week, totaling 100-120 visits, plus attending university fairs in the evening when possible. The university expects the admissions counselor to generate a number of student applications in line with the annual goals.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships, including outreach with external high schools, community colleges, and community organizations.
  • Recruit students and the evaluate and follow through on applied students.
  • Serves as representative of university in recruitment affairs and activities, educating potential students on opportunities at D’Youville as well as on factors that lead to a strong application.
  • Travel both regionally and nationally within a dedicated travel season of approximately 8 weeks, within the specified recruitment territory.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Strategic Enrollment Management, Marketing, Athletics, Alumni Relations, and other departments to continue development of the D’Youville Brand.
  • Serves as a professional administrator and university representative dedicated to the recruitment of traditional, transfer, and non-traditional students to the university. Engages in activities which assist, support and transition applicants to enrollees.
  • Answers all inquiries regarding admission standards, policies, programs, financial aid, and general information regarding the university.
  • Provide insight into scholarship resources and communicates the value of a D’Youville education to assist students in finding a good fit.
  • Reviews applications and determine the admissibility of students.
  • Maintains regular communication with prospective students and applicants.
  • Participates in recruitment travel and university fairs.
  • Coordinates on and off-campus recruitment events for prospective students ranging in size from personal appointments to larger open houses.
  • Contributes to communication planning, and publication content, and group presentations.

Requirements

  • 20% of annual worktime dedicated to travel (subject to university needs)
  • 8 weeks of travel during peak season:
    • Visiting 3 schools per day
    • 5 days per week
    • Total of 120 visits
  • Additional off-season travel may be required.
  • Able to represent and promote the university in a competitive environment.
  • Able to identify and recruit students who are desirable enrollees for the university
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills as well as a sincere interest in student well-being and success.
  • Engender self-motivation with appropriate energy level
  • Committed to meeting all office goals and objectives as established by the Director.
  • Exhibit initiative, resourcefulness, and problem-resolution skills.
  • Possess strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff and administrators.
  • Experience with admissions and enrollment CRM software.
  • Proficiency with current MS Office and social networking practices.

Qualifications 

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Marketing, or Business preferred.
  • Minimum 1 to 3 years sales, strong customer service experience.
  • Three to five years previous experience in admissions recruitment and counseling preferred.

Pay: $46,750 - $48,750 Annually
