• Under the direction of the Senior Management Auditor, Audits and Investigations Division, the Associate Management Auditor independently, as part of a team, or as a lead auditor, performs comprehensive and/or detailed audits, reviews, and examinations of the California Department of Education's (CDE) internal operations, activities, internal controls, and allegations of employee misconduct or fraud. The incumbent performs the following duties:

• Perform complex audit assignments in a timely and professional manner in accordance with the audit program and standards applicable for the project as prescribed by the Senior Management Auditor. Conduct interviews with pertinent persons; obtain, examine, analyze, and test documents, notes, and/or reports; and prepare applicable working papers to support work accomplished and identify operational deficiencies. Consider the design and degree of audit procedures necessary to fulfill assignment objectives, and create and document an audit program in consultation with the Senior Management Auditor.

• Consider, plan, develop, and discuss with the Senior Management Auditor the objectives, scope, and anticipated results for assigned audits, reviews, examinations, or consulting services. Research and document applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, accepted industry standards, or other applicable measures related to the assignments from practical sources for examination and testing purposes. Prepare and present oral or written reports of work accomplished to CDE management delineating the assignment's objectives, scope of work performed, significant operational deficiencies identified, and a recommended course of action.

• Meet the continuing professional education requirements of auditing standards, and maintain technical competence in conducting audit and audit-related assignments. Conduct other related auditing services and other job-related duties as specified and approved by the Senior Management Auditor.

Working Conditions

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. A hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and physically reporting to the office.
