Summary :
- The Staff Accountant supports the daily operations of the Accounting Department under the guidance of the Accounting Supervisor. Key responsibilities include reconciling investment balances and refund transactions across UPHS entities and Penn Medicine Corporate, as well as identifying automation opportunities to enhance efficiency. Timely communication with operational management is essential for delivering customer-oriented financial services. The Staff Accountant will also assist with monthly interfund reconciliation, special projects assigned by the Supervisor of Financial Reporting, and the Annual 403(b) plan financial statement audit, ensuring compliance with GAAP and accuracy in financial data. The Staff Accountant possesses a solid understanding of accounting principles and strong analytical skills to interpret and address finance issues with attention to detail. The role requires self-motivation, effective communication, and a positive attitude, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Punctuality and adherence to departmental deadlines and UPHS policies are critical for success in maintaining accurate financial reporting and supporting the overall goals of the Accounting Department.
Responsibilities:

Preparation of the monthly AIF investment reconciliations, inclusive of supporting the UPHS Investment roll forward.

Assistance of the preparation of Value-based program analyses.

Assist with the quarterly and annual external audit process which requires synthesizing various information, ensuring workflow and procedures are met and use of intuition and experience to oversee this process

Assisting with the interfund reconciliation with the preparation and recording of General Ledger elimination entries.

Census reporting including: Report of Organization, Office of Physicians, General Medical and Surgical Hospitals • Maintenance of monthly MAPS financial statement reporting.

Ability to complete analyses related to financial reporting and uploads of various entities financial results into GL system

Preparation of the annual 403 B Audit retirement fund report

Support the month-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.

Review assigned practices monthly financial statements for completeness, accuracy, and reasonableness of budget variance analysis

Maintain all schedules and analysis that support financial statements.

Assist in the development and maintenance of internal controls over financial reporting, ensuring adherence to accounting policies and procedures.

Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization
Credentials:
- Certified Public Accountant (preferred)
Education or Equivalent Experience:

Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
