The Position
The Veterans Benefits and Financial Aid Advisor assists with providing comprehensive support to veteran and military-affiliated students at Ocean County College. This position assists with overseeing the administration, processing, and reconciliation of Veterans' Education Benefits programs, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. Additionally, the advisor assists with general financial aid processing duties, including federal verification, student loan processing, and award adjustments.

Staff Duration: Full Time 12 months
What You Will Do
Ocean County College offers the following benefits to full-time Non-Affiliated Administrators:
Personal Time Off:
OCC offers generous time off every fiscal year. Mid-year appointments will receive a prorated share of allotted time off.
Vacation: Twenty-five (25) Days
Sick: Thirteen (13) Days
Holidays: Fifteen (15) College Recognized Holidays
Pension Benefits:
Participation in the New Jersey State Pension System is a requirement of eligible employees. Depending on the position and NJ State review, the participating pension will be the Alternate Benefit Program (ABP), Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), or the Defined Contribution Plan (DCRP). What You Will Do
- Veterans' Benefits Administration:
- Provide comprehensive advising to veteran and military-affiliated students on VA education benefits eligibility, application processes, and program requirements.
- Certify and process VA education benefits paperwork.
- Monitor student enrollment and academic progress to ensure continued eligibility for VA benefits.
- Financial Aid Processing:
- Assist with the processing of federal and state financial aid applications.
- Verify student eligibility for federal aid programs.
- Award financial aid packages, including grants, loans, and scholarships.
- Monitor student enrollment and academic progress to ensure continued eligibility for financial aid.
- Conduct financial aid workshops and presentations.
- General Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records.
- Respond to inquiries from students, staff, and the VA.
- Stay current on federal and state regulations governing financial aid and veterans' benefits.
- Participate in professional development activities.
- Other related projects and duties as assigned.
- Associate's Degree with four (4) years of experience in higher education, preferably in financial aid or veteran's services.
- In lieu of full experience requirement, a Bachelor's Degree and one (1) year of experience in higher education, preferably in financial aid or veteran's services and/or a history of military service will be considered.
- Strong understanding of federal and state financial aid regulations, including VA education benefits.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and student information systems (e.g., Ellucian Colleague).
- Superior attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to providing excellent customer service to students.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule as the role will require working late nights on occasion.
- Military experience and/or certification as a VA Certifying Official.
