Job Summary
This position will be filled as a Financial Analyst or Senior Financial Analyst, based on the selected candidate's background and experience level.
This position reports to the Director and is part of the Investment Reporting team, which has responsibility for the Company's internally and externally reported investment data. This includes the creation, and analysis of investment schedules included within the Company's quarterly Form 10-Qs and annual Form 10-Ks with the SEC, as well as quarterly and annual statutory filings. The role provides opportunities to collaborate across business units and utilize new technologies, as we strive to continually enhance and improve processes.
The Investment Reporting team is part of part of CNA's Investments & Treasury Division. This division is responsible for managing the firm's trade settlement, analysis, accounting and reporting for the firm's $45+ billion investment portfolio, as well as bank relationships and cash management activities.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, team-player that possesses a strong analytical mindset and a high degree of accountability for accurately reporting externally on CNA's financial position and internally to deliver meaningful financial insights that shape the direction of the Company. This role requires strong communication and organizational skills, attention to detail, and the desire to innovate and improve.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepares investment schedules for the quarterly Form 10-Qs, annual Form 10-Ks, and required statutory filings.
- Prepares management reporting documents and provides analytical support for internal requests.
- Participates in technical accounting research and in determining the proper reporting treatment of complex or unusual transactions.
- Participates in evaluating the impact of new disclosure guidance.
- Investigates investment results, understands and effectively communicates impact to management.
- Leads process improvement initiatives that enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting, including furthering use of technology to streamline processes.
- Works collaboratively within the team, across the department, and individuals external to CNA.
- Liaison with internal and external auditors and provides necessary support.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Basic knowledge of accounting and industry issues as they relate to the organization.
- General knowledge of GAAP and STAT accounting principles, practices and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software systems.
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, and ability to work independently.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Bachelor's Degree, preferably in accounting or finance.
- Typically one to five years of work experience in accounting/finance or reporting related role.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation a plus.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $54,000 to $103,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
