- No pediatric work experience is required. The Children's Respiratory Care team provides a robust orientation and education process for all new hires.
*If you are curious about working at Children's Wisconsin and trying out pediatrics, but already hold an FTE role elsewhere, and/or are not quite ready to make a full leap into Children's, the Respiratory PRN role is a great option!
A Respiratory PRN role typically requires at least 1 year of prior RCP work experience.- Respiratory Therapist PRN hires that love their time at Children's and transition into an FTE role within 6 months of hire will maintain eligibility for the sign-on bonus typically only available for new hires.
- Experienced RCPs (at least 2 years RCP work experience) are eligible for up to a $10,000 sign-on bonus for FTE .9 Nights. Pro-rated if lower FTE and/or shift other than Nights.
- Newer RCPs are also eligible for sign-on bonuses of adjusted dollar amount for FTE roles.
PRN Tier I:
• Three (3) - 12 hour shifts = 36 hours per 6 week schedule
PRN Tier II:
• Four (4)- 12 hour shifts = 48 hours per 6 week schedule
PRN Tier III:
• Six (6)- 12 hour shifts = 72 hours per 6 week schedule
The respiratory therapist PRN applies scientific knowledge, technical expertise and theory to practical clinical problems and is often required to exercise clinical judgment. Provides therapeutic, diagnostic, consultative and supportive services for neonatal through adult patients and their families. Actively participates in resuscitative and emergent situations. Functions within professional and hospital standards.- Education - requires completion of respiratory therapy program.
- Requires a valid Wisconsin Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license.
- Requires CRT. RRT strongly preferred before start for experienced RCPs and/or required within 6 months.
- For a PRN role at least 1 year RCP work experience is strongly preferred.
- Current CPR certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is required.
- Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification - American Heart Association (AHA) training is required within 6 months.
Must possess analytical skills necessary to resolve complex clinical problems relating to respiratory care issues and patient safety and welfare.
Ability to work independently and utilize time management, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills.
Ability to cope with physically and mentally stressful situations.
Interpersonal skills which frequently involve collaborating with peers, supervisors and medical staff on issues in order to accomplish objectives for patient care.
Ability to stand and walk for up to eighty percent of work time when performing job assignments or responding to emergency calls.
Ability to push or pull equipment that may weigh up to 170 lb. Ability to lift equipment/supplies up to 25 lb. Ability to lift or move patients from the neonate to adult. Ability to assemble complex equipment and perform fine motor skills.
