The

Sous Chef

at Gridiron Gastropub supports the Executive Chef in leading the culinary team, ensuring top-tier food quality and presentation. Key responsibilities include menu development, kitchen operations management, and staff training. The role requires a commitment to culinary excellence, creativity, and effective teamwork in a fast-paced environment. The Sous Chef also helps manage inventory, uphold health and safety standards, and contribute to a dining experience that reflects excellence.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

Provide superior guest service to visitors, guests, clients, vendors, and staff. Kitchen Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and plating. Ensure kitchen efficiency and maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization. Staff Training and Development: Mentor, train, and supervise kitchen staff to ensure skill development and adherence to restaurant standards. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment. Inventory and Cost Management: Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of ingredients. Assist in managing food costs and minimizing waste. Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure all kitchen activities comply with health and safety regulations, including proper food handling, sanitation, and hygiene practices. Conduct regular safety inspections and address any issues promptly. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with the management team to align kitchen operations with overall restaurant goals. Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff to ensure a seamless dining experience. Quality Control: Conduct regular quality checks on all dishes to maintain consistency and meet customer expectations. Address any issues related to food quality or customer complaints. Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on culinary trends and incorporate new techniques and ingredients into menu offerings. Continuously seek ways to improve kitchen efficiency and enhance the dining experience. All Other Duties as Assigned. FULL-TIME/SALARY/EXEMPT

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Desired Qualifications:

Minimum of High School Diploma or GED. Associate's degree preferred. Culinary Arts Degree preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in restaurant management, preferably in a high-volume, full-service environment. Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work a flexible schedule (nights, weekends & holidays as necessary) is required. Must be a flexible and reliable team player, both within own department and entire organization. Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of performance, working quickly without compromising quality. Must have the ability to demonstrate uncompromised judgment and discretion regarding confidential matters while maintaining confidentiality. Proven ability in Microsoft Office Suite. Physical Requirements for Position:

The ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly. The ability to work in various Ohio weather conditions, inside and outside. The ability to work with hot, cold, and hazardous equipment as well as operate phones, computers, copiers/scanners, and other office equipment. The ability to move safely over uneven terrain, steps, or in construction zones. The ability to see and respond to hazardous situations. The ability to sit, stand, squat, bend, stop, twist, walk, and complete repetitive hand and write motions for periods of time as required for the position. Must be able to hear, see, and speak. Ability to comprehend instructions and retain information. Must have manual dexterity necessary to complete all job duties. Must be available to work in Canton, Ohio.
