The
Product Owner
is responsible for working with the business to define the product vision for Coverys customers (internal and external). The Product Owner will work with the development team members (Scrum Leads, Developers, and Business Systems Analysts) to ensure that each release delivers the maximum value to our end users. The Product Owner will work closely with the business departments and development teams to make sure all are in alignment around business priorities and are working to deliver based on those priorities. This position will coordinate all feature/function prioritization and groom the backlog to ensure that work items are ready for analysis and release/sprint assignment. The Product Owner will be the primary point of contact for the business and development teams to respond to questions, and make sure needs are clear and being met.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Develop a solid knowledge of the existing systems and business processes. Work with business units to understand the business drivers and strategy. Collaborate with business units to establish the product vision. Work closely with the Scrum Lead to ensure the highest priority work is being allocated to upcoming sprint releases, or in epics as appropriate. Work effectively with the team to decompose complex feature sets into a set of priority stories for delivery. Review/prioritize product backlog with business teams. Lead discussions related to product roadmap as it relates to long term planning for strategic and development needs. Based on product vision and roadmap established with business stakeholders, make prioritization decisions and guide development teams on what work to pull in next. Participate in daily development team stand-ups, end of sprint retrospectives, and sprint planning sessions. Coordinate with Business Systems Analysts (BSAs) around documenting requirements for new development. Assist with ensuring requirements are clear, unambiguous, demonstrable, and testable. Receive appropriate sign-off. Develop user stories and define acceptance criteria. Together with Development Teams, develop, validate, and refine concepts with end-users. Clarify questions from the development team. In coordination with BSAs and Scrum Leads, ensure that UAT scenarios are diverse and comprehensive. In collaboration with respective business unit, ensure that all UAT scenarios are executed, and results are communicated and documented. Track internal deliverables and feature set against business requirements. Ensure system changes that impact compliance or best practices are reviewed and escalated via the technology governance process including the IT Planning Council and/or IT Steering Committee as appropriate. Together with IT management, ensure appropriate approvals are obtained and key documentation around requirement gathering and testing are documented. Requirements & Qualifications
B.S., Information Technology or related, required. 3+ years of business analysis or product owner experience, preferably with an insurance company. Previous experience with agile development practices, required. Proven track record of building effective, collaborative relationships with development teams. Results-oriented at an individual and team level, ambitious, and strong ability to follow-through on commitments. Able to work collaboratively with various team members, across sponsors, stakeholders, and customers. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in order to provide appropriate updates and reviews with business units and management.
The base salary range for this role is $99,000-$114,000. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors that are unique to each candidate including geographic location, skill set, experience, qualifications and education.
