AWe are seeking a seasoned, strategic, and highly experienced CHRO to lead all HR functions at the corporate level for a growing logistics company with operations on both coasts. This senior leadership role demands an executive who can make independent, impactful decisions to drive HR strategy, optimize benefits, and restructure workers' compensation programs to deliver substantial savings. The ideal candidate will possess significant experience navigating complex HR challenges, with a deep understanding of nationwide HR laws, including those in New Jersey, California, and Illinois.
The successful candidate will be someone who is currently in a CHRO role and has demonstrated the ability to lead at the highest level, driving change, challenging consultants, and effectively improving processes within HR, benefits, and workers' compensation.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy:
Lead and manage all HR operations across the organization, with complete independence and authority to make decisions.
Develop and implement strategic HR policies and initiatives that align with business goals and objectives, ensuring they support both short- and long-term growth.
Act as a key advisor to senior leadership, ensuring HR decisions are in line with company strategy, culture, and future growth.
Compliance & Legal Oversight:
Ensure compliance with all labor laws, with particular emphasis on complex state regulations in NJ, CA, and IL, as well as nationwide legal requirements.
Manage compliance with FMLA, ADA, OSHA, and other relevant regulations.
Handle complex legal issues, including lawsuits and employee disputes, ensuring that the company is protected from potential risks.
Workers' Compensation & Benefits Optimization:
Lead the restructuring of workers' compensation programs to achieve cost savings while maintaining a focus on employee well-being and compliance.
Oversee the development and execution of employee benefits programs, ensuring they align with company goals and deliver value while optimizing costs.
Challenge external consultants and vendors to improve processes, drive efficiency, and identify new opportunities for savings in benefits and workers' comp.
Employee Relations & Retention:
Manage employee relations at a national level, with a focus on creating a positive, inclusive culture that fosters engagement and high performance.
Develop and implement strategies for employee retention, especially in areas with high turnover, and handle complex workforce issues with tact and strategic insight.
Take proactive steps to ensure alignment between employee satisfaction, corporate culture, and business objectives.
Talent Management & Organizational Development:
Lead all talent management initiatives, including recruitment, retention, leadership development, and succession planning.
Develop programs for ongoing employee development, ensuring that key leaders are identified and nurtured to drive business success.
Provide regular updates to the executive team on HR performance and the impact of talent initiatives.
Cultural Development & Organizational Change:
Lead the development and evolution of a strong, high-performance company culture, ensuring alignment with the companys values and vision.
Guide organizational change initiatives with a focus on employee buy-in, communication, and strategic alignment.
Foster an environment where employees are engaged, motivated, and invested in the companys success.
Required Qualifications:
10+ years of HR experience, with at least 5 years as a CHRO or equivalent senior leadership role.
While logistics experience is not required, a proven track record in leading HR strategy and operations in large organizations is essential.
Deep knowledge of HR functions including compliance, employee relations, workers compensation, benefits, and HR strategy.
Expertise in navigating complex state labor laws, particularly in NJ, CA, and IL, with a thorough understanding of nationwide HR legal requirements.
Proven ability to make independent, impactful decisions that influence the entire organization and drive cost-saving initiatives, particularly in workers' compensation and benefits management.
Experience working with and challenging external consultants to improve HR processes, benefits programs, and workers' comp systems.
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field (Masters or HR certification preferred).
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with executives and employees at all levels.
Bi-lingual skills are a plus.
