Job Summary:

Maitri's mission focused programs provide critical services that empower south Asian survivors of domestic violence, and help move the needle on prevention of domestic abuse in the south Asian community and beyond. We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Director, Finance & Accounting to join our team of passionate individuals to further Maitri's mission. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial management, accounting, internal controls and funds management, preferably in the nonprofit sector. They will be sincerely committed to and accountable for developing and managing strong financial controls and timely, accurate processes and data to improve efficiencies and ensure compliance to relevant US GAAP and any other required principles for nonprofit financial management. The role also requires a compassionate mission-focused approach, and an ability to work collaboratively across teams to contribute to processes that enable best outcomes for survivors and internal customers.
Functional Responsibilities
Oversee the financial status of the organization including developing long and short range financial plans, monitoring the budget and ensuring sound financial controls are in place. Create systems and mechanisms for transparency in accounting and oversee all financial and accounting policies and processes for the agency Establish and monitor adequate internal controls including conducting internal audits Provide oversight of timely statutory compliance such as tax returns and other government compliances in line with nonprofit principles and grantor and other stakeholder requirements Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the Executive Director; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; Work closely with the Grants team to manage grants budgeting with appropriate controls and ongoing grant financial management Ensure maintenance of timely and accurate accounting and financial data and oversee timely submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports reflecting the relation of the budget to actual financial performance. Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; effectively communicate and present critical financial matters to agency leadership as needed Monitor monthly revenues and expenses to ensure adequate cash flow through the year. Monitor organizational cash flow and forecasting; analyze and ensure costs are accurately charged to each program and to grants as relevant Coordinate annual independent audits, liaise with the auditors, and present audit results to the Executive Director and Finance Committee, incorporating recommended best practices and changes as necessary Prepare and present a financial "year-in-review" with the Executive Director to the board and staff Provide oversight for timely statutory compliances related to tax, auditory and other financial compliance. Manage bank accounts and investment accounts as relevant, ensuring funds are appropriately allocated to accounts and well managed, as per organizational policies and any compliance requirements Handle all payroll activities for the organization in a timely and accurate manner; ensure organization is in line with current federal, state, county and/or city wage and payroll laws Work closely with the Executive Director and Finance Committee to implement the financial strategies that further the organizational mission Contribute to building strong organizational capacity in the finance and accounting program through ongoing staff development as needed and relevant Collaborate with the Director - Organizational Support on vendor management and operations activities Administrative/General
Supervise the Finance and Accounting team staff and conduct annual performance management Attend monthly staff and volunteer meetings to foster understanding and communication, and one's growth as a Maitri team member Support all agency activities and events and team members as needed Uphold and maintain Maitri's Leadership Principles Framework in all behaviors and interactions Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related field CPA certification or similar professional qualification highly desired Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and practices is a plus At least 10 years of experience in financial management and accounting, preferably some in the nonprofit sector Strong understanding of IRS regulations and GAAP requirements Experience in budgeting, financial reporting, audits and tax functions Experience and proficiency in finance and accounting software and tools Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to convey a high degree of commitment and passion for Maitri's mission, values and goals and show a keen desire for collaboration and teamwork within the organization Excellent digital, written and oral communication skills for diverse audiences including board members, staff, and grant partners, and ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with strong ethical standards and integrity Detail oriented, well organized, focused and goal oriented, ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, display initiative and have problem solving skills Willingness to work a flexible schedule when needed and to complete tasks on hand Work Authorization for USA required.
