Position Summary: ICS is seeking a skilled Embedded Systems and Hardware Integration Engineer with a strong background in computer engineering, hardware assembly, and system integration to work in our Waltham office. The successful candidate will be critical in building and configuring custom computer systems from components, deploying System on Modules (SOMs), and setting up secure communication channels such as VPNs. This role requires hands-on expertise in hardware, experience with embedded systems, and the ability to manage hardware inventory efficiently.

Responsibilities: System Assembly and Configuration:

Build PCs and embedded systems from individual components based on project specifications. Select appropriate hardware components (CPU, memory, storage, etc.) to meet performance and project requirements. Configure and integrate System on Modules (SOMs) into existing and new systems, including system installs and custom hardware setups.

Network and VPN Setup:

Establish and configure VPNs for secure, remote communication between deployed systems. Implement network security protocols to ensure data integrity and confidentiality across all devices.

Hardware Inventory and Tracking:

Develop and maintain an inventory system to track hardware assets, ownership history, and system configuration details. Perform regular audits to ensure the accuracy of inventory and documentation for all hardware assets. Track and manage the lifecycle and usage of each board and component, ensuring clear documentation of history and ownership.

Troubleshooting and Support:

Diagnose and resolve hardware and network issues for systems in the field and during development. Provide technical support for system installations and maintenance, ensuring uptime and reliability.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering

or related field (Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering). 3+ years of hands-on experience in hardware assembly, embedded systems configuration, and network setup. Proficiency in building and configuring PCs from components, with a strong understanding of system specifications and performance requirements. Experience with System on Modules (SOMs), including deployment, configuration, and system integration. Solid understanding of VPN configuration, network security protocols, and secure communication. Strong organizational skills with experience in managing hardware inventory systems. Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot hardware and network issues effectively.

Preferred Skills:

Familiarity with embedded Linux or similar operating systems for SOMs. Certifications in hardware or networking (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, or relevant Cisco certifications). Knowledge of hardware security protocols and secure data handling practices.
