Position Summary
The Infrastructure and Systems Specialist performs advanced technical duties and assumes responsibilities related to the security, maintenance, and monitoring of core infrastructure services such as: Google and Microsoft cloud systems administration, Identity and Access Management and cybersecurity. As part of the Core Technology Services team, the Infrastructure and Systems Specialist will participate in projects and technology implementations relating to new and emerging technology, such as AI, solution as a service and automation systems.
Duties and Responsibilities: As a member of the Core Technology Services team, assist in managing the College's cloud systems, Google Workspace for Education and Microsoft 365 tenants. In partnership with other CIS teams, remediate cybersecurity threats and quickly respond to cybersecurity incidents. As part of a team, identify, vet and implement new and emerging technologies such as AI services. Maintain current knowledge of the latest cybersecurity threats, technologies, and trends. Assist in managing the lifecycle of user accounts in Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace for Education and other relevant systems. Manage group memberships, shared mailboxes, role based access and distribution lists in the College's cloud systems. Partner with other groups within CIS to provide technical support as needed. Develop documentation as well as maintain standard operating procedures and configurations. Assist with coordination of special projects/tasks/duties and provide assistance as assigned. Monitor and respond to tickets in the help desk system in a timely manner. Cloud and Infrastructure
In collaboration with team members:
Manage directory systems and account lifecycle. Participate in planning and implementation of identity and access management enhancements and automation. Administer and maintain Microsoft Windows and Linux servers. Administer multi-factor authentication solutions and single sign-on systems. Administer campus DNS, DHCP, and IPAM (DDI) services for the campus.
Cybersecurity
In collaboration with team members:
Actively monitor systems for security related events. Ensure that security is part of the design of cloud services. Participate in the development of cybersecurity playbooks; carry out steps assigned to the administrator role in the event that a playbook is invoked.
Other Responsibilities
Provide application and system support outside of usual campus hours, as needed or required. Under the direction of the Senior Director and Senior Infrastructure and Systems Administrator, create and maintain relevant technical documentation. Attend and actively participate in team, CIS department, and other Claremont technical meetings. Escalate urgent issues via phone and email to CIS managers 24/7. Other duties as assigned. Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment to carry out CIS strategies and meet annual goals. Ability to carry out independent research and make well-reasoned recommendations on the basis of the research. Ability to work well in a small team-oriented college department where people often perform many roles at once. Ability to juggle many different demands during a typical workday without losing track of priorities. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with implementing SaaS and IaaS services within cloud environments like Microsoft Azure. Familiarity with both user side and administration of Google Workspace for Education and Microsoft 365 environments. Demonstrated desire and willingness to keep up with constantly changing cloud offerings by reading widely, attending conferences and networking with other IT professionals. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to develop and test hypotheses. Ability to communicate technical concepts in terms that are appropriate for the intended audience. Ability to handle multiple customer requests with a sense of urgency and consistent follow up. Ability to communicate in an understandable, polite and friendly manner, both in writing and verbally with a wide range of customers, vendors and technical colleagues. Ability to work with a range of technical staff to troubleshoot and develop joint solutions. Demonstrated understanding of technical troubleshooting methodology and effective analytical skills. Education: Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Experience:
Proficient with Microsoft Azure service offerings, web console and PowerShell. General knowledge of Google Cloud Platform and Google Workspace for Education. Demonstrated technical understanding and experience with systems that provide single sign-on, multi-factor authentication and identity and access management. Sufficient background knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, web servers, Active Directory, PowerShell and Linux to carry out the duties of the position. Licenses and certifications: Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to the College's automobile insurance carrier.
Physical requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the staff member is regularly required to sit; stand, use hands and fingers and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The individual must regularly lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Preferred Qualifications
At least 2 years planning server and application upgrades. Experience with migration of systems from on-premise to the cloud. Experience with RapidIdentity, or a similar IAM provider (Okta, Ping, OneLogin). Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask in a campus environment. Ability to occasionally provide support for the local campus network in partnership with CIS staff and HMC network service providers. Other:
Required to possess and maintain a valid California Driver License and a DMV record that meets the requirements set by the College's insurance carrier. Hours: Regular hours are Monday, through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. (including a one-hour meal period). Hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department. Classification and Status: This is an exempt, full-time, 12- month, benefits-eligible position. Salary: The anticipated starting salary is $80,000.00 - $95,000.00 annually.
