Lead Structural Engineer (Bridge Engineer) - Greenville, SC

Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC is actively seeking a Lead Structural Engineer to join the Design Team to support various transportation projects throughout the Southeast. The Lead Engineer will be assigned to the Greenville, SC Office.

Summary

The Lead Structural Engineer will perform the following job duties including but not limited to:

Analysis and design of structural components for bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other transportation-related structural systems. Deliver technical solutions to clients typically in the form of contract documents such as construction plans, design calculations, and project specifications. Perform structural design utilizing AASHTO and other applicable design specifications as well as state and local design requirements. Responsible for project management, staff management, seismic design, bridge/culvert inspection, load rating, review and approval of construction submittals, quality control, communication with clients, and sub-contractors. Mentor junior staff and additional managerial duties as assigned by the group leader.

Responsibilities
  • Develop effective designs, details, drawings, and specifications for transportation structures that could include pre-stressed concrete girder bridges, pre-stressed concrete hollow-cored slab bridges, steel plate girder bridges, reinforced concrete flat slab bridges, retaining walls, noise walls, box culverts, etc.
  • Coordinate with project team, contractors, vendors, and other consultants to ensure compliance with engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design requirements.
  • Provide internal quality control for construction drawings, design calculations, and specifications to ensure technical accuracy, conformance to project requirements, and overall constructability.
  • Work with the Project Management to ensure projects are completed on schedule and under budget.
  • Maintain organized documentation/archives of design files, drawings, and construction submittals.
  • Proactively communicate with clients, other disciplines, and sub-consultants.
  • Provide construction assistance and respond to Requests for Information (RFI's) as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD Specifications, AASHTO Standard Specifications, AREMA Specifications, and state-specific design criteria/specifications.
  • Must be able to independently manage project tasks.
  • A high level of attention to detail is required for this position.
  • Expert software skills with MicroStation required.
  • Knowledgeable in job cost, scheduling, safety, and construction concepts.
  • Strong communication skills are expected, both oral and written.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must complete a pre-employment screening; ICE is a drug-free workplace.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering required. Master's Degree in Structural Engineering desired.
  • 10-15 years of bridge design experience preferred.
  • PE in South Carolina or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Familiarity with ProjectWise, Microsoft Products, LEAP Bridge, CSI Bridge, and/or other commonly used structural design software packages is required.
  • Familiarity with SCDOT Bridge Design practices desired.


Physical Demands

While working in the office, this position predominantly involves up to 8 hours per day at a computer workstation, with occasional standing and walking. The employee may occasionally lift lightweight office supplies and materials, typically not exceeding 20 pounds. The office environment is indoors, characterized by controlled temperatures and minimal exposure to adverse conditions. Must have visual acuity to recognize/change/add precise details on CAD drawings.

During fieldwork, the position entails moderate physical exertion, encompassing walking, standing, bending, and ascending stairs or ladders. The employee may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Fieldwork exposes inspectors to various environmental conditions, including but not limited to loud noise levels, dust, dirt, and temperature fluctuations. Inspectors must adeptly navigate construction sites and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.

Expected Hours of Work

This position is full-time (40 hours per week). Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing one unpaid hour for lunch each day. While overtime is generally not anticipated, occasional projects or deadlines may necessitate additional hours, compensated according to company policy. Flexible schedules may be available with prior approval from the immediate supervisor. Work schedules may vary based on project demands.

Pay Range: $100,000 - $150,000 per year
