DESCRIPTION OF THE DISTRICT:
The Brandon School District is a mid-size school district nestled in Northwest Oakland County. The district has approximately 1,000 students in junior kindergarten-5th grade between the two elementary schools, approximately 600 at the middle school level and approximately 850 at the high school. This small, tight knit community has a strong connection to its schools and is passionate about the education of its youth. Brandon High School sends 85-90% of its graduates to post-secondary school each year, it was ranked in the 82nd percentile of all schools in the State on the top-to-bottom rankings and it was awarded as a Silver Medal Winner by the US News. Our elementary schools are both one-to-one technology are each near the 83rd percentile in State rankings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Fully licensed Counselor in the State of MI (LPC) or Limited License Counselor (LLC)
- Master's Degree in Counseling
- School Counseling Endorsement
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge about the State Assessments, College Board, and MDE programs used to facilitate assessment
- Knowledge about outside resources/support for families
- Knowledge and expertise in delivering mental health counselling, academic guidance and intervention
- Knowledge about master scheduling
- Knowledge about career planning and programs associated with career planning that are utilized with students
- Understanding of MTSS, 504 plans, and IEP process
- Knowledge about crisis and trauma informed practices
- Understanding about the student transition from middle to high school and ability to provide guidance to families and students through these transitions
- Knowledgeable about facilitating and supporting students transition to college and careers/post-secondary options
- Ability to develop genuine and positive relationships with students
- Knowledge and/or experience with integrating technology into the learning process
- Ability to maximize technology for effective communication with students, staff and parents
- Ability to build professional and collegial relations with staff and parents
- Ability and desire to adapt, learn and grow as an educator
- Ability to provide regular and reliable attendance, which is an essential job function
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build and maintain the Master Schedule
- Monitor students' overall academic performance and collaborating with staff members to develop necessary academic supports for students
- Consult with individual students/parents to discuss academic gaps and research potential supports or interventions
- Through classroom, small group, and individual student planning, assisting students in developing a post-secondary plan, also known as an Educational Development Plan, that is required for all students starting seventh grade
- Provide resources to students to engage in career exploration opportunities
- Deliver career assessments and core curriculum lessons aligned that assist students in identifying personal characteristics that lead to potential career opportunities
- Maintain appropriate logging and billing for 31N
- Provide responsive services to meet the needs of students, including individual, group and crisis response counseling
- Assist students in developing positive relationships with peers and adults
- Assist students who may be experiencing difficult life circumstances
- Connect students and families with community resources through referrals
- Assist students in developing healthy coping strategies for successful school and life transitions
- Assist students in developing interpersonal communication skills
