The responsibilities for the position of Senior Traffic Engineer include:

  • Managing traffic design and analysis projects and tasks.
  • Applying software tools such as CADD, Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, and other software aids to support the development of transportation projects. Areas of work may include preliminary and final traffic signal design, signing, pavement marking, work zone traffic control, roadway lighting design, ITS design, traffic operations analysis, impact studies, and ICE reports.
  • Mentoring team members and overseeing work of others, including design calculations and documentation, plan development, and agency design requirements.
  • Assisting with project procurement, scoping, and management.
  • Evolving innovation, best practices, and efficiency within the Traffic practice area and across Isthmus.
  • Evidencing continued commitment to individual, company, and industry improvement.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or graduate degree in Civil Engineering field.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Minnesota, or ability to obtain the same within six months. Certification as a PTOE a plus.
  • Traffic engineering-focused experience; project management experience a plus.
  • Experience in some or all the following tools: Synchro, SimTraffic, and VISSIM.
The ideal candidate will also demonstrate the following skills:
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Strong time management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in leveraging CADD as an aid to quality design and efficient plan production.
  • Ability to maintain productivity in an autonomous environment.
  • Positive team-focused attitude.

Compensation and Benefits
  • The anticipated base salary range for this position is $100,000-$125,000/year for a 40-hour base work week. Compensation will be based upon experience, education, skill level, and other factors.
