School Bus Driver
Qualifications:
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Have a valid driver's license and must not have served a suspension relating to any hazardous driving volition or have more
than four points against his/her driver record (MVR) in the previous twelve months. Also, must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License.
• Bus drivers shall pass a physical exam prior to initial certification as a bus driver and at time of recertification. A pre-
employment drug and alcohol test is also necessary.
• Satisfactorily complete the driver training course conducted by the State Department of Education and receive a school bus driver's certificate that will entitle the holder to operate a school bus in the state of South Carolina.
Physical Requirements:
• Have enough physical strength to operate a bus with ease.
• Have proper height, weight and posture to assure normal vision and control of a school bus.
• Must be free from any physical defects that would interfere with the safe operation of a school bus.
• Eyesight and hearing must meet state requirements.

Job Goal:
To transport students safely, efficiently and economically to and extracurricular events on a non-regular basis.
Supervises:
To transport students safely, efficiently and economically to extracurricular events on a non-regular basis.
Performance Responsibilities:
• To conduct pre-trip inspection of school bus prior to every trip for defects.
• To report bus accidents and student injuries to authorities.
• To operate bus on approved time schedule.
• To conduct emergency evacuation drills in keeping with state regulations.
• To instruct riders of district discipline code.
• To drive defensively under varying traffic conditions and inclement weather.
• To drive with safety of students as first priority.
• To report personal absences in time for supervisor to secure substitute driver.
• To wash bus inside and out. Supplies are furnished by school district.
• To report bus defects to supervisor.
• To establish favorable working relationships with other drivers, maintenance personnel, teachers, students and principals.
• To exhibit positive image as a loyal representative of the school district.
• To demonstrate knowledge of rules and regulations governing school bus operation.
• To have knowledge of all traffic laws and regulations.
• To be alert and exercise good judgment concerning emergencies.
• To maintain a neat and clean personal appearance.
• To complete all paper work required by the state or by the school district.
• To attend all in-service training required by the school district.

Performance on this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of non-certified personnel.
