Summary
This position is located within the Patient Care Services Division of the Cheyenne, WY VA Medical Center. This position is under the direct supervision of the OR Nurse Manager, Surgical Associate Chief Nurse, or designee. This position performs both janitorial and custodial services and specialized cleaning procedures needed for The Operating Room, Pre-operative and Postoperative care areas, and Endoscopy Procedural Room. Duties
The Housekeeping Aid (HKA) - Environmental Services (EVS) Technicians who maintain VA facilities for Veterans and their families are essential to the patient care experience at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). A VA healthcare career as a HKA-EVS Technician means working alongside other Veterans, who make up 85 percent of the housekeeping staff.
Tasks involve cleaning, sanitation, disinfection and decontamination of all movable equipment include, but not limited to, stools, instruments tables, operating tables, lifts, IV poles, bladder scanner, Bio-Compression system, CPAP/BiPAP equipment, kick buckets, etc. Incumbent performs specialized tasks in completing sanitation duties in critical care areas such as Specialty clinic Procedure room, Endoscopy Procedure room, Pre-op, Recovery, and Operating Rooms.
Specialized tasks include, but are not limited to: isolation cleaning, terminal cleaning, performing aseptic cleaning techniques, etc. Incumbent completes thorough sanitizing and decontamination of all stationary/fixed surfaces to include ceilings, walls, floors, surgical lamps, monitors, vents, panels, restrooms etc. utilizing variety of cleaning supplies and equipment. Handles surgical trash, biohazard waste, and soiled linen in accordance with policies and procedures. Incumbent refinished and restored floor, clean porcelain, glass window partitions, and furniture. Uses industrial type powered cleaning equipment and maintains equipment in clean condition.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some work may be performed outdoors where there may be exposed to varying degrees of heat and cold as well as inclement weather. PPE may be required in some circumstance as exposure to possible contagious diseases, blood and bloody secretion are inherent to this position. Care is required to avoid serious injuries (i.e., broken bones) when working on ladders, or when using 30-100-pound power equipment or handling hazardous materials.
