Assurance

We take a holistic approach to quality that extends across hardware, software, and user interaction design. This role is a key leader that will ensure that our firmware and mobile applications meet the highest benchmarks for reliability, performance, and user satisfaction.

This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including firmware engineers, mobile developers, product designers, and customer support teams, to identify, diagnose, and resolve quality issues throughout the development lifecycle.

As a leader, you will develop robust testing frameworks, manage QA processes, and manage the efforts of external partners.

This position is required to be in the Bay Area as this is a hybrid position, 3 days in our San Francisco office each week.

Responsibilities:

Quality Strategy + Process Development: Define and implement quality focused forums and processes that span device firmware and mobile applications. Create and manage test plans that cover functional testing, integration testing, performance testing, and regression testing for firmware and mobile app updates. Develop a comprehensive testing framework to ensure seamless interoperability between connected devices and their mobile applications.

Testing & Validation:

Oversee the development and execution of manual and automated test cases to validate firmware and mobile application functionality, usability, and performance. Lead efforts in testing over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates, ensuring robust and reliable update processes with minimal downtime. Ensure compatibility testing across different mobile platforms (iOS, Android), including testing for connectivity (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi) and integration with cloud services (AWS IoT). Work closely with the firmware and mobile app teams to identify root causes of defects and ensure timely resolution before product releases.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Collaborate with product, firmware, mobile development, and customer support teams to ensure that quality processes align with product development goals. Coordinate with hardware engineering teams to ensure hardware and firmware function cohesively and issues related to firmware-hardware interaction are resolved. Communicate quality metrics, defect status, and testing progress to stakeholders across the organization.

Issue Management & Continuous Improvement:

Lead efforts to diagnose, track, and resolve issues arising in the firmware or mobile applications, ensuring rapid response and effective solutions. Conduct root cause analysis for defects and production issues, and provide recommendations for future improvements to both processes and designs. Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the QA process, identifying opportunities for automation, efficiency, and higher testing coverage.

Team Leadership:

Build and mentor a team of QA engineers, ensuring they have the resources and guidance needed to execute tests effectively. Establish and maintain a culture of quality, driving accountability and focus on delivering defect-free products. Train the team on new tools, testing methodologies, and best practices in software quality assurance.

Qualifications:

7+ years

of experience in quality assurance, with a focus on firmware and mobile application testing for connected devices. Proven experience leading QA teams and managing QA processes in an agile development environment. Strong understanding of firmware testing methodologies, including OTA update testing, integration testing, and device performance validation. Experience with mobile application testing on iOS and Android platforms, with a focus on connectivity, performance, and user experience. Hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks for both firmware and mobile applications. Familiarity with tools for defect tracking, test case management, and continuous integration. Excellent troubleshooting skills, with the ability to perform root cause analysis and drive solutions to complex technical problems. Strong communication skills, able to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and present testing results and quality metrics to leadership. Preferred Skills :

Experience with connected devices, IoT systems, or consumer electronics. Familiarity with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or other wireless communication protocols used in connected devices. Understanding of AWS IoT services and cloud-based device management. Experience with security and performance testing for mobile applications and connected devices. Familiarity with security practices for IoT devices and systems, including encryption, secure boot, and TLS/SSL protocols. Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Benefits:

Salary Range:

$155,000-$165,000
