Description

The position is primarily traveling between district schools and facilities to be involved in the installation, maintenance, and support of all LAN, wireless networking, and telecommunication equipment and software for the DISD network environment. Participates in projects such as new construction/renovation, assisting with equipment evaluation and selection, and technology research.

Diagnose hardware, software, and configuration failures of all LAN and wireless networking equipment and perform or secure repairs. Conduct site surveys for school users requiring adds, moves, and changes, to determine the need for hardware, software, and/or data communication wiring. Install, configure, and maintain switches, routers, wireless access points, new wiring, fiber, conduit, cable try and and other networking devices. Support data moves as necessary, cross-connect data communications wiring, and check equipment for proper operation and connectivity. Diagnose network problems and outages using an Ekahau (RF), Network Sniffer, Lanalyzer, or similar network traffic analysis equipment. Assist users concerning the use of data and voice communications. Assist with the evaluation, specifications, and requirements of new equipment. Document network installations, moves, and component configuration to the satisfaction of the Network Manager. Maintain network uptime and reliability to the satisfaction of the IT management, with the goal of maintaining the network at a 99.99% reliability standard. The network technician will provide on-call support on a scheduled basis and responsible for emergency off-hours network and telecom support as needed. Involved in large-scale network and bandwidth upgrades with vendors and providers such as Cisco Systems, Meraki, HP Aruba, and other leading DISD vendors/providers. Monitor telecommunications, network, and WAN environment, components, and connectivity. Keeps abreast of technical and professional trends and developments in data networking through publications, conferences, seminars, and classes. Qualifications

Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. Equivalency). Minimum 3 years LAN/WAN technical support experience. A technical networking or Wi-Fi/Wi-Fi certification from the following list: Ekahau, AirMagnet, Cisco Wireless, Cisco Meraki, Aruba, CompTIA, or BICSI. Experience in several wireless LAN solutions, such as Cisco, Cisco Meraki, Aruba, Arrista, etc. Experience in network access control systems, such as Cisco. ISE or Aruba ClearPass Plus. Experience with Cisco and HP networking equipment. Skype and Teams phone systems experience desired. Must know standards for the installation of cabling, including Cat 5 and Cat 6.
