Under general supervision operates bus on regularly scheduled bus routes throughout the City of Davenport; on-the-job training is provided to successfully obtain a CDL license with proper endorsements. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills Excellent time management skills Visually inspects bus and reports mechanical issues Follows a planned bus route, making scheduled stops to pick up or drop off passengers Collects fares and answers questions about the bus route Communicates with dispatcher via two-way radio Ensures safety of all passengers Must be able to work flexible schedule with additional hours as needed Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 5am-7pm and Saturday 8am-7pm Follow State and Federal Transit regulations Performs other related duties as assigned New hires will receive a $500 bonus upon completion of 6-month probation and an additional $500 bonus upon completion of one-year of continuous employment. Examples Of Duties
Operates various makes and models of motor passenger coaches: drives the coach safely through heavy traffic over designated routes in accordance with time schedules; picks up and discharges passengers; ascertains that correct fare is deposited in the fare box; issues and receives transfers; ensures safe and prompt arrival at passenger destination.
Polices and maintains order on the bus: maintains good public relations by answering inquiries; provides passengers with information on routes and transfers; safely attends to passengers with disabilities or in need of assistance in a safe and professional manner.
Maintains records and completes reports: reports driving hazards to the office or supervisor; completes trip sheets as to fare box readings; completes reports on coach and equipment defects; prepares accident reports.
Inspects coach for condition of passenger area and functioning of safety devices; cleans driver area daily and passenger areas as needed; fills bus with fuel and logs gallons used if necessary; checks for adequate supplies of transfer tapes, emergency transfers, schedules, and other items needed.
May work additional overtime as needed. Qualifications
The equivalent of six months of successful work experience in the operation of a vehicle on public thoroughfares.
Must pass a physical examination and background check as prescribed by the city. All CDL personnel are subject to Federal Transit Authority Random Drug & Alcohol Program.
Must possess a valid Driver's License and obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake and passenger endorsements within six (6) months of hire and maintain throughout duration of employment. Knowledge and Skills
Good Knowledge of: Municipal street locations and transit routes.
State and city traffic regulations, signs and signals.
Transit department policies and procedures regarding fares, schedules and passenger boarding.
Bus operations and routine service requirements.
Considerable Skill in: Communicating tactfully and factually with passengers in response to questions and concerning behavior.
Working Skill in:
Safe operation of public passenger coaches. Completing reports on fare box readings, accidents, and mechanical difficulties. Reading and following simple instructions.
